Timeless Review: The World’s Columbian Exposition (Season 1 Episode 11)
Timeless is nothing if not entertaining and the horror lover in me actually really enjoyed this week’s episode, “The World’s Columbian Exposition.”
Why, you ask?
Well, it’s simple: the entire episode is a bit like a corny horror movie. Very few horror movies are critically acclaimed, because they are sort of notoriously cheesy and terrible in all the right ways, and this episode is true to that format.
Of course, it has to be mentioned that “The World’s Columbian Exposition” has just a dash of Supernatural flavor that will be greatly appreciated by fans of the series who remember the Holmes-based episode from way back in the earlier days of Sam and Dean Winchester’s hunting trip.
It’s also entertaining as hell — just like the early days of Supernatural, when we went on a different hunt each week.
And just like a campy horror movie.
I mean, we literally have the most famous magician of all time facing off against the world’s first serial killer.
If that’s not a recipe for a good time, then I don’t know what is.
Houdini, by the way, is arguably one of the greatest famous figure cameos this show has had. A campy spinoff revolving around Michael Drayer’s Houdini solving mysteries and outsmarting criminal masterminds sounds like the greatest show of all time, and it’s a shame that we will never see him again after this.
He is a dream to watch — perfectly timid while being just the right amount of self-assured.
H.H. Holmes leaves a little to be desired, but that could easily be due to the fact that we don’t get to spend nearly enough time with him. It’s such a fascinating concept and, again, it sucks that we won’t get to see it explored a little further.
In fact, one of Timeless‘ greatest downfalls (and strengths, perhaps) is the fact that it often has remarkably strong secondary characters that we will never see again.
As talented as the main trio is, they sometimes pale in comparison to the colorful characters we meet along the way.

Speaking of our talented trio, we have Lucy back — although, there was never really any question of whether or not she would be reunited with the others right away after the break.
As interesting as it would have been to see Lucy travel with Flynn for a while longer, we all know that her kidnap was only meant to serve as a source of drama and, possibly, Lyatt ship angst.
But now we have a new twist now that Wyatt knows the name of his wife’s killer. It will be really interesting to see what he does with this information, given how hell-bent he’s been on, somehow, changing what happened to her up until this point.
Will Wyatt go to the dark side?
I sort of hope so.
