Growing Up McGhee Recap: If You See Me Praying, You Know Why (Season 2 Episode 2)
With the McGhee family, there’s always a new task to accomplish.
On Growing Up McGhee Season 2 Episode 2, “If You See Me Praying, You Know Why,” Mia and Ro push the kids to get the training wheels on their bikes removed.
It’s Saturday, and the McGhee family morning isn’t going well. The kids want to be outside riding their bikes, but the rain has made it impossible to do. After a few hours of having to wait inside the sun finally comes out and the kids make their way to the bikes.
Because it’s been so long since the kids rode, Ro has to air the tires up on all of the kid’s bikes. The kids get impatient with having to wait, so they grab their scooters from the garage and begin to ride those. Six bikes and twelve wheels, can you blame them for being impatient?
Ro finally gets the tires aired up, but the kids are still having fun on the scooters. To get the kids out of their comfort zones, Ro and Mia make them get on the bikes. Things start to go well, and it looks like some training wheels might start coming off until the rain comes back and ruins it.
Inside because of the rain, Ro quizzes the kids on what they’re learning in school by making them say their ABC’s, spell their name, and count to one hundred. This type of support from your parent is important in general, but it’s even more important when learning is a struggle.
I love that Mia and Ro really work hard to make sure that the children are as prepared as can be.
For the most part, all the kids do okay in the family night quizzes, but when having six children, not everyone is on the same page.
Ro has an excellent way of getting the kids to push themselves to learn. They go right along with whatever he’s doing.
The next day, it’s time to try the bikes again. Today is picnic and biking at the park. While making sandwiches for the picnic, Mia introduces some math equations to get the children thinking in everyday situations. Presenting problems in everyday life is a very creative way of getting the children to learn.
The McGhee family finally arrives at the park and get their biking on. Teaching the kids to ride with no training wheels is harder than expected for most of the kids, but Elijah and Olivia get the hang of it. Getting kids to stop using training wheels is hard enough, but having sextuplets makes it even more complicated.
The trick with getting the others to ride with no training wheels? Get one or two to do it, and the rest will follow. Kids are competitive in general, but in a household of six, it can be even worse to try to get more attention. I grew up in a house of three children and know how competitive we were, so I can only imagine as they get older how it’ll be.
Finally, the kids sit down and eat their picnic lunch, heading home afterward. Mia and Ro are working hard to make sure the kids are learning and will be ready for first grade. So, they gather the family around at the kitchen table and test the kids on their spelling.
Tensions rise as some catch on quicker than the rest, but ultimately they are happy for one another.
Watching the children cheer each other on as they learn is such a heart-warming scene.
Bedtime strikes, and everything goes out the window. Getting sextuplets, as imagined, is harder than it looks. Because change is something that keeps the kids on their toes, Mia and Ro have a rule of switching the boy’s rooms up.
Growing Up McGhee never fails at capturing the attention of the audience. It’s wholesome family fun.
