American Horror Story Review: Chapter 8 (Season 6 Episode 8)

American Horror Story, Reviews

American Horror Story: Roanoke Season 6 Episode 8 delivers yet another fantastic episode with “Chapter 8.”

Off the bat, Audrey and Lee are the true MVP’s of this episode. Lee saves the day, escapes the clutches of the Polk’s, helps Audrey escape, and kills off Dominic, all while having a missing ear and part of her thigh ripped off.

That is real dedication.

Audrey, on the other hand, well, she is only in the MVP category because every word that comes out of her mouth makes me laugh. I know I shouldn’t, but between telling her fans that she has so many great roles to give them, constantly talking about how good the other actors are, and being straight up with Momma Polk while facing death in the eyes, you have to laugh quite a bit.

Oh, and let’s not forget the extraordinary lines she delivers. A few of my favorites:

  • “I played her for six months. I know her better than I know myself.”
  • “I paid good money for these teeth.”
  • “Do you want a joint.”
  • “Poor Shelby, I feel like part of me is dying with her.”
  • “I had so much more to give, I love you.”

She honestly thinks she’s about to die, and films a video for her fans telling them she loves them.

Ever since the twist of this season I have wanted Dominic to die, so the pigman taking him out doesn’t bother me one bit. Granted, he tells the truth about Shelby killing Matt, but he still deserved to die.

Shelby, on the other hand? I have a problem with her death.

I had high hopes that she would be the one to make it out alive, but killing Matt makes her have a mental breakdown. At least she has the decency of getting to die when she chose and not being tortured or murdered by the Butcher or the Polks.

Speaking of the Polks, I am going to talk about Jether Polk, and don’t get me wrong — I hate the Polk’s as much as anyone else.

But, I honestly believe that if his mother hadn’t raised Jether, he would be off doing great things. He shows real compassion (as much as you can while being a Polk) by covering Lee’s leg up so she can make one last video for Flora and even admits that he can’t leave even if he wants to. Momma Polk holds him captive, and it upsets me.

Lee wants to go back to Polk farm when it’s all over to retrieve the videos taken showing them killing people, but we all know that she just wants to get the video of her admitting killing her husband back.

I don’t think she killed him. I believe that she only told Flora that so she would stop always wondering what happened to him, even if she was telling a lie and making herself look like a murderer.

Overall, this episode is full of amazing performances, and I can’t wait to see what the last two episodes have to offer.

Other thoughts:

  • I am still waiting for Taissa to show up. I still think that she is going to be playing Priscilla, so if The Butcher meets her demise, I assume she’ll grace us with her appearance in the finale.
  • Wes Bentley shows back up as Gillian in the last few seconds of the episode, and I am confused. If he wasn’t invited back to do the show then why exactly is he showing up in the middle of all the carnage happening?
  • I was hoping that the Pigman would have more of a significant impact, but sadly he wasn’t as important as I hoped. I am still a little mad that Evan Peters wasn’t the one playing him.
  • Will Monet make it out of the woods alive or will the Polks take her hostage again, this time killing her before Audrey and Lee can help her?
  • Sarah Paulson and Adina Porter need to star in more together because they truly compliment each other. They have great chemistry.
