Lucifer Review: Liar, Liar, Slutty Dress On Fire (Season 2 Episode 2)

Lucifer, Reviews

Yes, “Liar, Liar, Slutty Dress On Fire” is actually the title of this week’s Lucifer. If that wasn’t enough, then the episode itself is really something special.

It’s really the right blend of cop procedural, mommy issues and drama. Lucifer is definitely not holding back this season.

We start with a montage of Mum cycling through dead bodies and immediately getting killed again. After a while, she settles into a woman killed by a screwdriver.

Now, obviously Lucifer doesn’t believe her story. Abandonment seems to be on his mind a lot these days. And Mum isn’t exactly making a lot of effort to convince him anyway.

So, he tries to find out if she really is telling the truth. That leads to him solving crime with Detective Decker.

It’s not what you usually get from the show. The case is actually very interesting considering its connection to Mum. What follows is a very hilarious set of circumstances where Lucifer gets to demonstrate his paranoia.

Dan is actually very bearable this time around. Being Chloe’s inferior seems to suit him. I’m also glad they’re keeping Trixie, who by the way is another vessel for Lucifer to demonstrate his mommy issues.

About Mum though, her natural disgust of humans is very similar to the Lucifer we saw in Season 1. We can see where he takes after her.

But the episode is really all about the development of their relationship. Mum abandoned Lucifer and now we learn that Lucifer would have died otherwise.

Now, I don’t believe this story. Mum is obviously hiding something and she isn’t exactly a saint when it comes to her children.

But is this really leading to a showdown between God and Mum? Is Lucifer just being used by her? Maybe. Mum obviously has some sinister plans of her own.

Meanwhile, Amenadiel is losing his wings and we have no idea why. Maybe it’s because he’s the new Lord of Hell and maybe it’s because of his love for Maze. We have no idea. But him apologizing to the doctor was a good move. It’s great to see Amenadiel keeping his cool despite losing his powers.
