Blindspot: 12 Jaw-Dropping Moments from “In Night So Ransomed Rogue” (Season 2 Episode 1)

Blindspot, Reviews

NBC’s Blindspot is back with an explosive new season!

Season 2 Episode 1, “In Night So Ransomed Rogue,” is filled with escapes, motorcycle chases, and fight scenes. It’s so action packed that it’s like watching a movie.

Here are 12 Jaw-Dropping moments from the season premiere.

1. Jane’s Escape

Season 2 opens three months after the events of Season 1 Episode 23 “Why Await Life’s End.” Jane’s been moved to a CIA black site where she’s been tortured.

Memory fragments lead her to develop an escape plan and a worn and ragged Jane fights her way out. It’s an explosive start to the season and a great way to grab the attention of anyone who may not have seen the show before.

2. Motorcycle Chase

Seamlessly, the show breaks into Weller & Co tracking a woman on a motorcycle. The scene is shot with a classic misdirect. We think that they’re tracking Jane after her escape, but when Weller finally stops the bike, it’s not Jane at all.

For those who may remember the pilot, this mimics the way the series opens. The story cuts from Jane being apprehended in Times Square to Kurt making a bust before he gets swept away and questioned as to why his name is on Jane’s back.

3. The Arrival of Nas

This episode introduces Archie Panjabi, as Nas. Her performance in this episode is brilliant and she delivers each of her lines with a cool calculated demeanor of someone with a plan.

She’s been watching the Jane Doe investigation and following “Sandstorm,” but the question we have is: Can we trust her?

4. Jane and Kurt’s Confrontation in the Hotel

Getting Jane and Weller in the same room is tense, but let’s be honest, if you’d been pulled down a deep, dark hole, you’d want to talk to the person that took you to processing.

For anyone on the Jeller train, this is a long-awaited scene that quickly erupts in the action that we’ve come to know and love from Blindspot. Still, there is some hope that Jeller will hug it out.

5. Jane Comes Clean

Jane kept a lot of secrets last season, since the moment she met Oscar (again) and getting that info dump out included coming up with a device that “makes a polygraph look like a mood ring.”

I’m pretty sure it was designed for pure aesthetics. This looming device is the focal point in the scene between Jane and Nas, where she tells Weller & Co 90 percent of the things that she knew about last season. And the entire team looks like idiots for thinking any less of her.

The one thing they can’t forgive, Mayfair’s death, even though that was all Oscar. Really? Mayfair hid Daylight from the team last season, consciously, you seemed to forgive that big secret.

6. “You Have to Shoot Me”

To get Jane back to Sandstorm they are going to pretend she escaped from Cade’s custody, but to make it look real she needs Weller to shoot her. The gut-wrenching scene ends with Tasha shooting her.

Cold? Yes. But it was also necessary. Jane is right, she couldn’t go back completely unscathed, so this had to be done.

7. The Shootout at the Traffic Stop

Roman comes to Jane’s aid and almost immediately kills four cops. If I was in Jane’s place, I’d be worried for my safety.

This scene is made so much scarier by the angles in this shot. With most of the angles being from inside the car this is both terrifying and interesting to watch.

Top it off with Jane’s face when Roman gets into the car, and it’s a priceless scene.

8. The Second Tracker

No Blindspot review is complete without a nod to Patterson. Without fail she saves the team’s bacon over and over again!

This time, it’s covering for Nas, who fitted Jane with a second tracker in her belt. Yep, once again Patterson saves the day. Proving that whether you are landing a plane or shutting down a transmitter, you want her on your side.

9. Jane’s Past Comes Out

Our patience is rewarded with several answers from Jane’s past. Upon meeting with Shepherd, we got lots of answers regarding Jane’s history, starting with her real name: Alice Kruger.

She was born in South Africa. Her parents were anti-apartheid activists who were killed by the government. She was placed in a program that trained kids to become soldiers. The woman known as Shepherd, was one of the American soldiers that liberated the camp.

All of this info is dumped in a single speech! Did anyone else’s head spin a little?

Oh, and Alice changed her name to Remi to distance herself from her past. So what do we call her now? Alice? Remi? Maybe we’ll just stick with Jane.

10. Roman

You may want to put the brakes on those Joman vibes you may have been feeling earlier, because it turns out Roman is Jane’s biological brother.

Not only is he her brother, but he’s also the one who dropped her off in Times Square. Luke Mitchell plays these scenes with both an abrasive protective instinct and tender nature that makes the newly introduced sibling relationship feel genuine.

I’m excited to see where this relationship goes in the coming episodes. The introduction of Jane’s brother is sure to bring a new set of obstacles and allegiances Jane will fight against.

11. Jane Wanted to Be Taylor Shaw

Let’s not lose hope for Jeller yet. This little exchange may not have included fight scenes, info dumps, or flashy effects, but this genuine, and honest scene between Jane and Kurt is touching nonetheless.

It acknowledges that they both wanted her identity as Taylor Shawl to be true. Kurt wanted Jane to be Taylor. Jane wanted to be Taylor. Does the fact that Jane isn’t Taylor really change who she is? She’s not the girl he grew up with, but people change in twenty years.

12. There’s a Mole in the FBI

Not a second is wasted in this episode. In the final moments we got to see a bit of “Sandstorm” and their plans (which involve a rocket).

More interesting is the reveal that there is a mole in the FBI. May not be news, there was already a mole in the FBI wasn’t there, but the fact that we are now going wait for this asset to be activated is nerve-wracking.

This is going to be a wild season.

What did you think of this episode of Blindspot? Do you have any theories on who might be the mole? Let us know in the comments below!
