Orange is the New Black Review: (Don’t) Say Anything (Season 4 Episode 3)
There is trouble in prison! In Orange is the New Black’s “(Don’t) Say Anything” prisoners are at odds with each other and the outside world.
This episode is all about Brook and Poussey, and teaches Brook an important lesson about running her mouth.
In the process of trying to arrange a “blind friend date” Brook gets Poussey’s backstory wrong. When Judy mentions this assumed story at lunch Poussey takes offense and gives Brook the cold shoulder.
Brook also is showing her habit of making assumptions, something she has to work on, but Brook is willing to. She makes an effort and she wants to change.
It’s adorable when she stands outside the library holding that radio. It’s an iconic moment and a sweet gesture that shows that Brook really cares for Poussey.
Can we just file Poussey and Brook under “relationship goals?”
Tensions are rising between the inmates too. The Dominicans want in on Felonious Spunk, Piper’s panty business, but Piper will have none of it. She’s particularly offended when she sees one of the new girls steel fabric scraps from the sweat shop.
Can everyone say: “It’s on?”
Red and Judy King are at odds with each other. We know that Red hates when people step on her territory and having a “World Class Chef” in her garden isn’t going to help matters.
Judy is picking Red’s corn, her green beans, and generally making herself a presence in Red’s life; a presence that Red doesn’t welcome or want.
This prison kitchen isn’t big enough for the both of them.
Of course, Red doesn’t take anything lying down and she doses Judy King’s food with eye drops, giving her the runs.
That’s cold, but honestly, Judy King should know better. You don’t mess with Red.
Does anyone remember when she tried to starve out Piper? Or sent Trish to the SHU because she was buying drugs from Pornstache? (Okay, that one was for Trish’s own good!) Or when she lost the kitchen and she started a grease fire that burned Gina and pissed off Norma in the process?
This can’t end well.
Stray Thoughts:
- We need to see more of Gina! I enjoyed her witty banter during this episode as she milled around those old buildings outside of the prison grounds.
- Taystee’s job as Caputo’s assistant isn’t helping the class lines in prison. The fact that they don’t have money to hire an assistant is going to create problems. This is just another thing that won’t end well.
- Lorna and Vinny’s simulated sex scene in the visitation room is kind of funny (although maybe a little creepy) and very reminiscent of Where Harry Met Sally.
- Lolly’s struggling with the murder she and Alex committed during the premiere. The body is planted in the vegetable garden where they have to work every day. For a conspiracy theorist who believes the NSA is spying on her, that can be really scary.
