This year at the ATX Television Festival, the opening night screening was for USA’s much-anticipated new series, Queen of the South.
We caught up with Queen of the South star Alice Braga on the red carpet to chat about the show and what drew her to the role in the first place.
Braga said she loved the book, and was really happy to get the call for Queen of the South.
“The main reason that I signed up for this project was the character, because it’s a very special journey. It’s a woman that is born and raised in very poor life circumstances, and she just struggles to survive, but never victimizes herself,” Braga said.
“She’s very pragmatic, she’s very focused, and very honest and generous,” she continued. “And even though she becomes who she because which is a drug lord, her journey is a very interesting journey.”
Queen of the South premieres Thursday, June 23rd at 10/9c on USA.
