Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Review: Kimmy Goes Roller Skating (Season 2 Episode 1)

Reviews, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt remains delightfully hilarious and ridiculous during the Season 2 premiere titled “Kimmy Goes Roller Skating!”

Current network comedies cannot hold a candle to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. You can love it, or you can hate it. But you have to admit you enjoy every second of this show.

Hapless Kimmy must continue to learn life lessons in the crazy mixed up world of Manhattan, with the help of her friends Titus and Lillian.

And somewhere along the way, hilarity ensues. Whether it be via Kardashian jokes, snappy dialogue or even cringe-worthy storylines that can only exist inside the head of the writers and creators of the show.

I wasn’t expecting Tina Fey to give in to the criticism she faced last year, nor did I expect to find myself laughing so hard I was crying. But I did, and I don’t regret enjoying the first episode of the new season.

We need now more than ever just to laugh and enjoy how ridiculous life can sometimes be. Watching Kimmy makes me joyful. It makes me forget that life sucks sometimes. It makes me want to go roller skating! And it makes me want to forgive Amtrak for its not so timely train schedules.

They are late so that people can have romantical situations, people!

I’m aware that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is problematic, but to be honest, there is a time and place to get up in arms about various issues and jokes, and this just isn’t the time. Kimmy Schmidt exists to entertain and make us laugh.

I, for one, will be watching the rest of the season.

In fact, I’m resisting the urge to binge the rest to find out if Titus is lying about ever doing drag, something tells me that he is, or if Kimmy and Dong finally get together! Or what becomes of Jackie and her struggle with her Native American identity.

Oh, and how can I forget how hilarious Carol Kane is as Lillian! I hope that we get to see more of her storyline with Bobby Durst (shivers).

Other Thoughts:

  • I could easily use this space to put every single line from this episode, but I will resist the urge.
  • Oh, Titus saying you don’t do drag when I know you watch RuPaul’s Drag Race as religiously as I do. I’m calling you out on your lie.
  • Kimmy and Dong belong together! I hope this happens.
  • Jane Krawshoski remains amazing as Jackie, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings for this character.
