Quantico Review: Fast (Season 1 Episode 19)

Quantico, Reviews

Shelby and Alex are reunited! Rejoice!

Honestly though, that hug is probably the most exciting thing to happen in this week’s episode of Quantico, entitled “Fast.”

After last week’s serious lack of Shelby, and after the major reveal that she was driving the car that took Will and Simon, I’m glad this episode, or at least half of it, focuses on her and her motives.

The hair and make up department of this show really pull their weight and make Shelby look “darker” this episode with the abundance of eye shadow and lipstick; but something about Shelby just does not scream terrorist – ever.

When she secretly tells Alex that she’s on their side via morse code while simultaneously acting like the bad guy, it comes as no surprise.

The interrogation scene is absolutely riveting. You get to see Priyanka Chopra and Johanna Braddy play off each other in a situation that is a lot more intense than we are used to. Alex is trying so hard not to jump to conclusions and just believe that Shelby is a good guy because she’s learning the hard way that you can’t really trust anyone.

And you see Shelby say what she needs to say to hurt Alex, all the while, with pleading eyes, beg her to not believe her hidden message.

It’s actually a lot of fun.

Alex is finally able to trust Shelby (cue bestie hug), but at the expense of losing her trust with Miranda. It’s sad to see Miranda start to doubt Alex after helping escape FBI custody; especially after that heartfelt speech at the end of the episode last week.

So, slowly, but surely, we’re starting to piece together who we can trust and who we can’t.

Caleb is still not in the clear, but I do think Shelby is.

The number one suspect on the list after ‘Fast’ is Drew. He leaves Quantico with bitter resentment; towards the system and towards Alex. He’d also been there for 4 weeks by the time Alex starts her training, which would have given him ample time to research and set up everything he needed to frame her.

With the season coming to end soon we will be able to find out who it’s been all along very soon, but it seems like Will won’t be there to help us through it. Will was a bit odd when he was first introduced, but when he became Caleb’s friend, I started to really like him. I’m sad to see him go… but also absolutely shocked that he’s helped build a nuc.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if the season ended with another terrorist attack and with the FBI looking for someone to blame?

‘Fast’ wasn’t a fast episode. It only really moved the plot forward minusculey. (But it did bring some closure to the very stretched out love triangle between Drew, Alex and Ryan; hallelujah!) The academy storyline didn’t seem like a great fit this week.

I just hope that next week’s episode will move a bit faster and sooner rather than later we’ll have our favourite NAT’s all on the same team again, trying to figure out where Simon is, and how to stop the next bomb!

Things to think about:

  • Kudos to Shelby for being able to multi-task hard-core. I find it hard to eat and think at the same time, sometimes.
  • What’s going on with Ryan? Why is he so hell-bent on “catching” Alex? Is this professionalism or just heartbreak?
  • Does anyone care about Nimah and Raina’s handler?
  • So just to be clear… Caleb’s dad set up the breakup and then decided to date Shelby?! What?!
