Melissa McCarthy Returning to Stars Hollow
There’s no need to be “smad” any longer!
Michael Ausiello gave Gilmore Girls fans the news they’ve been waiting for since the revival was made official back in January: Melissa McCarthy WILL be making a visit to Stars Hollow!
The news broke at TVLine, with Ausiello writing, “After months of will-she-won’t-she speculation, Melissa McCarthy has agreed to reprise her role as Sookie in Netflix’s forthcoming Gilmore Girls revival, I’ve learned exclusively.”
While it seemed unlikely that Sookie would appear in the revival, which does not yet have a release date, Amy Sherman-Palladino, once again, put the invitation forth to McCarthy in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “We’ve just put it out into the universe; we’re here until May 10. I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours.”
McCarthy, who previously took to Twitter to say that “Sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!” has been championing the revival as she does the press circuit for her upcoming film, The Boss.
In a recent interview with Jess Cagle at People, McCarthy said, “I’m excited they’re doing that. I think it’s great. I get more questions about Gilmore than anything else. The fan base is so remarkable to me, and I’m really proud of that show. I actually am excited for my girls, when they’re a little older, to start watching that. I think it was a really great show, and I love that those characters are going to come back. It just, timing-wise, was not right.”
It looks like the timing is right now.
