Game of Thrones Game of Thrones Death Ranking: 8 Character’s We’ve Lost - Part 2

Game of Thrones Death Ranking: 8 Character’s We’ve Lost

Game of Thrones, Lists

4. Oberyn Martell. He’d already won. We don’t think this can be overstated. He’d already won. Tyrion was free; the Lannisters had lost the upper hand for once.

He’d won. And then he lost. And he died. And it wasn’t just a quick, oh, cover your eyes, he’s dead, no. He left us slowly. Brutally. Undeservedly. In Game of Thrones it seems like the rule is: the more you like a character, the greater the chances that she/he will die at the end of a season.

3. Robb and Catelyn Stark. We’d already learned the ‘No one is safe’ lesson, or at least, we should have learned it. But in the episodes before Ned’s death and this one, it had sort of diluted. We knew it, but we didn’t believe it. And so Game of Thrones had to remind us, in the cruelest way possible. It had to underscore the message. And it had to rip our hearts out to do it.

2. Jon Snow. The only reason why Jon doesn’t get top spot is because we’re not entirely sure he’s going to stay dead. In fact, we’d be willing to bet we’ll see him alive, though maybe not well, at some point this season. Not that it takes away from the total horror of betrayal, from the despair of that final moment where our one light in the show was seemingly extinguished.

1. Ned Stark. A lot of people have died since then, and a lot will probably die before the show is over, but no one has hurt as much as Ned Stark. Maybe it’s because we were naïve then and we kept hoping against hope. Maybe because it was our first taste at how cutthroat this show could be.

Or maybe it’s because he was the best of them all, the best of us all, and in his absence it’s very hard to know exactly we should be rooting for.

  • I would go further with #4 and say the MORE you like a character, the more brutal and grisly their death will be. This show is SO MEAN. But yet I keep watching.
