Empire: 5 Things You Need to Know About the Spring Premiere
We got our hands on the spring premiere of Empire and let’s just say… you’re going to want to tune in. Without giving away too much, here are a few things you can expect from the Season 2 return.
1. A figure in the shadows – in the past, most of Empire Record’s problems have been internal. This time it seems that an outsider is gunning for power too. What we don’t know, though, is who that outsider is. They, so far, are keeping to the shadows. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t making an impact. In fact, the most shocking moment in the episode is all their doing. Will the Lyons be able to handle internal and external battle at the same time? Or, will Empire Records fall when the family is dealt the lowest blow yet?
2. Sketchy sidekicks – speaking of problems for the Lyons, all of our favorite sketchballs are back and better than ever. Thirsty (the crooked lawyer) is still clinging to Lucious like his life depends on it and he’s more willing than ever to do whatever it takes to stay involved. Camilla is showing her (gorgeous-Naomi-Campbell) face again and is working hard to pry Hakeem and sweet little Laura apart. And Anika is back and ready to up her backstabbing game. The Lyons have managed to gain new problems without solving any of their old ones.

3. An empty throne – Hakeem might seem like the obvious successor to the Empire Records throne, but there’s a good chance he’s going to crack under the pressure of choosing between Camilla and Laura. Andre’s mental health issues are still going unaddressed, so he might be out as well, and Jamal hated being in charge last time… so, that just leaves Cookie. Would Lucious allow this, or will, for the first time, no Lyon hold the position of power at Empire Records?
4. Family reunion – maybe. With no clear leader in place, it just might be time for the Lyons to reunite. For now, it looks like everyone might be on board. But, let’s be honest, even if Lucious is willing to play along, we all know the man can hold a grudge. This just might be the season when he’s forced to finally choose between music and family. For real this time.
5. Style goals – The Lyons always bring the fashion and the spring season does not disappoint. Cookie’s looks are droll-worthy as usual and Anika shows up in a dress/jacket combo that is everything I’ve ever wanted in life. Seriously, the outfits just keep getting better and better.
