Suits Review: Tick Tock (Season 5 Episode 15)

Reviews, Suits

Every week, I say that Suits is amazing. And every week, it manages outdo itself. Somehow, this show has decided to wear its big boy pants now. In retrospect, the stakes have never been this high… and we are shown that with the amount of arguments, doubt and deals that are made behind everyone’s backs.

“Tick Tock” is probably one of my favorite episodes to date. Not only did it having me clutching my heart, and gasping, it is superbly acted, and directed as well. Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams give some of their best performances to date, and it hurts my soul that they have yet to be nominated for an Emmy.

Speaking of outstanding performances, Louis outdoes himself this week! We finally get character development! The moment when we see that Louis has recorded his conversation with Harvey, gives us all a scare. But one of the most satisfying moments in the history of this show is watching Louis decline Anita Gibbs’ offer, because he believes in Harvey- and in Mike.

Which is pretty much the theme of this episode! The scene in which Harvey shows up to Donna’s house is done perfectly. We get to see the vulnerability that started this season off. The team of Suits always does such a great job with showing the state Harvey is in by just his dress. He shows up a bit disheveled- but still in a suit, unlike the casual slacks he was sporting for a couple of episodes in the beginning; the top buttons on his shirt undone and he just looks so tired, and nervous.

The fact that this trial has Harvey almost in tears really shows the magnitude of his love and fear for Mike, his job, and his friends. There’s a small second where I’m sure the fandom believes this is finally when these two will get together.

But of course not.

Donna admits to knowing that Harvey went, and goes to therapy, and she delivers a line, in such an exasperated tone, that makes me wonder how these two could ever not be together.

Donna: Because I think you’re worthy. And I don’t wanna lose you.

Which of course, brings me to my next point. Why can’t Rachel take a couple of notes from Donna’s handbook? Why can’t she just be a fountain of support and love- and why is she always crying? Rachel has not been a favorite of mine since the beginning of this series, but lately, I’ve found myself just wanting to roll my eyes whenever she’s on screen. She seems selfish, and whiny, and just… childish.

Yes, she’s scared for Mike — but why can’t she believe in him the way Donna is asking Harvey to? Why can’t she stick by his side while he says that he will never turn Harvey- or any of the partners in? It’s moments like these, where I feel like yeah, they’re a great looking couple, and they have their cute moments, but in the end, they will never work.

And maybe that’s a sacrifice we’ll see Mike make. Maybe in order to be a lawyer- if the jury finds him innocent, he will have to give up his hopes of being with Rachel- or anyone for that matter. Or maybe he will take Anita Gibbs’ deal, and have to leaver her for two years.

Because I don’t think Mike would ever give Harvey up. Ever. But I guess we’ll just find out if these guys have one last trick up their sleeve at the 11th hour.

Or should I say, the 25th hour?
