Suits Review: God’s Green Earth (Season 5 Episode 4)
Suits just keeps dropping massive bombs on us, and its really stressing me out to be honest. This week’s episode, entitled “God’s Green Earth,” brings my blood pressure up to the point that I may need to go to a doctor.
No, seriously!
We get to see so much more unravel, and happen, and I have no idea how this will all play out in the end, but I’m pretty sure of one thing.
Relationships will be lost. Mike and Rachel’s. Probably Harvey and Jessica’s too.
Because this week’s episode was the voice inside our head, saying that this could just be our fault.
Mike did commit a felony. Harvey did help him. Jessica did keep it all a secret.
So maybe the bad guys aren’t the firms poaching the clients, or writing editorials. Maybe our guys aren’t knights in shining armour. Maybe their grey; maybe, they brought this on themselves. Although, I do wonder why Gibbs has such a vendetta against PSL. She’s doing crazy amounts of stupid things to win this trial- all for no reason it seems (so far). But that can’t be true. She must have a reason. Maybe it’s Daniel Hardman. Maybe it’s Forstman. Either way, I do wish they’d tell us why she’s made it her life’s mission to bring down PSL.
Blame game aside- this trial is happening. And our guys are doing everything they can to prepare. To Jack Soloff: It’s to put his personal crap aside, and fight for his firm. To Harvey: it’s researching. To Mike: it’s call in Scottie.
Okay, I have never been a fan of Scottie. Maybe once, when she first came, I liked seeing Harvey show emotion, but she got whiney and clingy really fast, and then there was betrayal, and I pretty much dislike her – very much. This episode was no different, and I’m actually very shocked that more reviews haven’t brought up that scene near the end of the episode. You know the one! The hearts of millions of #Darvey fans broke when Harvey decides he wants to call Scottie after the trial. Because what? I thought the show- and Harvey, had moved on! You know, to Donna! For quite some time, I have tried to figure out what that scene meant. Why did the writers put it in? To show Harvey’s vulnerability? To show his interest in Scottie? If that’s the reason, then why pretend like he has any interest in Donna beyond a plutonic friendship? The whole scene seems pointless and just a stab at any romantic developments that may have happened between Donna and Harvey to stretch out their slow burn.
Another prolonged relationship in this episode is Rachel and Mike’s. I do not think they will make it. Rachel has had her doubts from the beginning of this mess, and now, after seeing that her career could be caught in the cross fire, makes me think she will not be walking down an alter any time soon. Or maybe, we’ll get to see Scottie’s prediction of Mike’s resentment play out after they do get married. That’d be interesting too.
Speaking of interesting: Sheila did come forward. It wasn’t a fake out, which I prayed it was. Sheila has always been a fun character, mostly because she has been paired with Louis and isn’t whiney like many of the other females on the show. She has a backbone, and being in a relationship does not deter her from making, hard, rough, correct choices. But the push and pull with Louis and Sheila is “God’s Green Earth” is something else. Last week we saw Louis go to her to ask her to retract the tip.
She did not.
We see him go to her and ask for better associates.
She says no.
And while I do think it’s comical of Jessica to send Louis again to make sure she’s not in court, it’s absolutely enthralling to see Louis finally sway Sheila to go to Argentina. Watching Louis be pulled apart by the two loves of his life, Sheila and the firm, allows me to empathize for him in a way I never have been able to before. And while he does blow up on Jessica and accuse her of being a bad leader, I do think we see some character development in him; because he does what Jessica asks- no questions, and does not do anything misguided or stupid.
That’s a win in my books.

Things to think about:
- This show has become about who can say the wittiest line, and walk out the door the fastest with the most swagger
- Jessica is absolutely fierce this episode, and I love seeing her claws come out
- They found Trevor. Dammit!
