The 100 Review: Wanheda Part 2 (Season 3 Episode 2)
After watching “Wanheda Part 2,” I’m seriously considering watching both parts back to back and creating a mini The 100 movie night. These two episodes are absolutely KILLER when viewed together.
Obviously the only thing anyone wants to talk about is the fact that Lexa is back! After seeing the news the Alycia Debnam Carey had gotten poached by Fear The Walking Dead, it seemed like a real possibility that we’d never get to see the Commander again. Thankfully, the scheduling worked out because that cliffhanger was too badass for words.
Her return will definitely bring up a whole host of issues for Clarke, the first being that she’s essentially been kidnapped by the girl who screwed her over. Can Clarke leave? Should she? Does she even want to? My guess would be probably yes to that last one. If looking at the people of Arkadia every day was going to be a constant reminder to Clarke of her guilt, then I can’t imagine what looking Lexa in the eyes every day will be like for her.
Jasper has really gone off the tracks this season, and it’s strangely a great look for him. Devon Bostick is crazy talented, and he somehow makes Jasper’s grief a storm of fury and sadness and despair, while still keeping it very human and believable. Hats off to you, sir.
Let’s just hope that said grief doesn’t end up getting anyone hurt. He might be self-destructing right now, but self-destruction usually comes with a few other casualties, and I’d hate to see Monty or Octavia suffer for trying to help him through this ordeal.
Abby: Jasper, you’re never going to move past this unless you face your feelings head on. Your friend, Finn, he never did that and it broke him. I don’t want that happening to you.
Jasper: Your daughter killed him too.
Show of hands for who ABSOLUTELY doesn’t trust Farm Station?
Not to be paranoid, but these people have been stranded in Grounder territory for months. They may have been peaceful Sky People at one time, but they are by far the most savage of the Ark survivors we’ve seen so far, and an interesting take on what could have happened to The 100 under Bellamy’s control. After all, Pike seems to share the same war-mongering Grounder hate that early Bellamy did. I’m keeping my eye on that one…
On the political side of things, the Mount Weather situation is something I never saw coming. Call it the spoils of war or a necessary evil, but stripping that place bare in order to survive seems like a natural thing to do post-apocalypse. Unfortunately, in the world of The 100, it’s never that simple.
How they go about cultivating those resources is not just as simple as surviving. The Grounders might be savage in many ways, but Abby knows there are still politics to be played in this world, and stealing Mount Weather’s resources and technology for themselves turns the Sky People into the new Mountain Men in the eyes of the 12 Grounder Clans. Even in desperate times, image is an important thing to maintain.
Abby: You want me to bring a Grounder into Mount Weather for a transfusion? They killed thousands of people for that blood, Jackson.
Let’s just hope that Abby’s decision to open up Mount Weather after all doesn’t backfire tremendously. All the good it could do won’t mean very much if it ends up causing a war with the Grounders.
Finally, let’s talk about Bellamy’s failed attempt to rescue Clarke.
It would have been too simple to let him succeed and drag Clarke back to camp, but it was still heartbreaking to watch him desperately chase after her. He wants her back so badly, but is it because he genuinely cares about her, or is there something else motivating him? After all, Clarke didnt’ pull that lever alone, but she did leave Bellamy to deal with the fallout by himself. That has to be weighing heavily on his mind these days. Whatever those two have together, it’s wonderful to see it play out on screen.
Other Thoughts:
- PRINCE Roan? Oohhh intrigue!
- Monty made me cry. Someone snuggle that boy, right now.
- Clarke is blonde again! Huzzah!
- Why is Roan running from his own people? Strange and exciting things are happening…
- Jaha and Murphy are not my favorite plot this year, but I’m willing to give them one more episode to change my mind.
- LEXA!!!
