Teen Wolf Review: The Sword and the Spirit (Season 5 Episode 14)
Reunited and it feels so good. This week’s episode of Teen Wolf titled “The Sword and the Spirit” sets all the pieces to defeat The Beast and rescue Lydia. The big bad should be afraid of the power of family and friends.
The Good: The Pack is Back

Things have finally come full circle and we’ve reached the present. Lydia’s back in the game, the Argents are on board, and the pack is back! This journey of pain and heartbreak has only served to fortify the pack and show them how bad things can get if they fall apart. Individually they are weak and lost, together they’re a lean mean Beast fighting machine! They will never fall apart like this again. On a side note, Braeden joining the group makes one wonder where Derek is? He’s part of this pack, always has been. To truly get a sense that things have righted themselves in Beacon Hills he has to return. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
The Bad: Theo, Again…

In a not so surprising turn of events Theo betrays Malia. Even he couldn’t pretend that there was a bond of trust growing between them. He squanders an opportunity for true friendship and pack by letting his thirst for power blind him. Even Deucalion is capable of seeing what Theo can’t, using the opportunity of his capture to get the revenge he’s probably been longing for ages. Despite both of their thirsts they will be cut down by The Beast or their own greed shortly. They stand no chance with the pack on its way to being fully reinstated.
The Utterly Frustrating: Gerard

Scott willingness to work with Gerard Argent shows how much of a threat The Beast is. He trusts Chris to keep him in line for as long as needed even if he risks the chance of being reminded of all the heartache that man’s caused. (And it’s a lot!) This man is an plethora of information because he knows his enemy better than he knows himself. Exploring the Argent history is something that can open up flashbacks galore with more opportunities for favorites to return *cough* Crystal Reed. His vast knowledge will be of use to everyone until he a) dies or b) Scott puts him out of his misery.
Other Observations:
- Any last vestiges of hope for Theo have been lost. He could have the pack he’s always wanted, the red eyes, if he’d just realize it can be rooted in friendship.
- Deaton is back! Maybe this time he’ll actually give them information about what’s going on around them and not continue with his vague tidbits. It’s frustrating and we’ve got no time for it!
- Despite all the bad guys circling Beacon Hills, everyone’s hair is always on point. Take a look back at the episode and note Malia and Theo’s hair. Salon quality.
- Why was The Beast hiding behind that wall? Better yet, why was he after Deaton? The Desert Wolf used him as bait to bring out Malia but also draw in the creature. How did she know they would all come?
- Malia somehow ended up taking her mother’s abilities at birth. Instead of caring for her child and letting that motherly instinct kick in, she saw it as a betrayal and tried to kill Malia. Mother of the year there.
Music from Episode:
- “Where’s My Love” by SYML. Plays as Stiles begs Lydia to wake up. (The Stydia is real!)
- “Dear Wormwood” by The Oh Hellos. Plays when the pack unites.
