Teen Wolf Review: Damnatio Memoriae (Season 5 Episode 12)

Reviews, Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf continues to leave fans a whimpering, crying mess with all the feelings it gives us. The episode, titled ‘Damnation Memoriae’ sees the reunification of lost brothers and family. And let’s not forget Lydia, she’s finally started to wake up.

Let’s talk about it!

Stiles and his father have a relationship that is constantly tested. In this episode, they show that they’re still on top. The Sheriff knows his son well enough that he hits every fear Stiles has spot on. Trusting each other and surviving the danger all around them is the number one priority to these men.

From here on out, Stiles won’t have to hide his pain and fear because his father understands him. They are a key element of Teen Wolf that keeps viewers like me coming back for more because it’s challenging and worthwhile to see this ever-evolving family carry on in the middle of crazy circumstances. Plus, we love seeing the lengths a man would go to for his son. Sucker for that.

Later in the episode, Stiles approaching Scott for help comes as a shock to the alpha because his pack is broken. It’s clear by the hesitation that rolls off of him and the meek way he questions if Stiles is really asking him for help. Regardless of their broken bond, Scott takes the opportunity presented to him and doesn’t let go.

Finally he’s seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and his best buddy needs to be by his side. #ScilesIsBack started trending almost immediately after the duo pushed away the anger and confusion that grew between them during Season 5A. Sure, they don’t take a moment to sit down and discuss everything, but they’re together — a united force against Theo, the chimeras, and the Beast. Scott takes his first steps in being a true leader by fixing the broken relationship. Instead of depending on Stiles to always have his back, he’s supporting his brother and right hand man.

They’re pack.

In a surprising twist, Meredith Walker, banshee/benefactor extraordinaire, scares the socks off of Lydia by emerging from a tub full of black goo. (Seriously gross and freaky. Initiate wide eyes and hiding behind blankets.) Putting aside her creepy entrance, her appearance might be exactly what Lydia needs to escape her mind and Eichen House. It’s also an opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a banshee.

After Lydia escapes the psych ward — because you know she will —  a completely different world will open up for her as a woman and a supernatural creature. Hopefully she’ll be able to dig into her family’s banshee past because she will be sure of who she is.

Stiles is the first step in setting things right. Next week, it’s time to bring Kira back into the fold, followed by Lydia’s rescue. The pieces are falling together and we can’t wait!

SPECIAL SIDE NOTE:

Tonight’s episode had a huge bounty of great music. Instead of talking about Theo’s never-ending beautiful face and abs…why not list it all with its accompanying scene!?

  • “Religion” by Howard. Plays when Hayden and her sister were driving in the car.
  • “Bada Boom, Bada Bling” by Caleb Hawley. Plays as Scott works on crime board.
  • “Rapid Fire” by Black Tiger Sex Machine & DEAD BATTERY. Plays as Theo electrocutes Josh and Liam watches from nearby.
  • “Shout” by NITEPPL. Plays during awkward, yet cute, scene where Corey asks Mason out.
  • “Bloodstream” by Ed Sheeran & Rudimental. Plays when Stiles comes to Scott for help.
  • “Exorcism” by Clairity. Plays when Hayden and Liam talk and make up.
  • “Howling” by Nathan Ball. Plays when Scott and Stiles exit the tunnels and everything is right in the world (well except that crazy beast and all the chimeras.) Sciles is back!

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
