8 Female Characters That Rocked The Small Screen in 2015
Ever since I started watching television, female characters have always been my favorites. This year has been no exception to that rule. From Jessica Jones, to Scandal, to The 100, here are the eight women that rocked my small screen and stole my heart in 2015.
8. Norma Bates, Bates Motel
Norma is probably the most complicated woman on this list. She keeps her cards close to her chest and doesn’t really trust anyone to help her with the continual troubles that keep popping up in her path. Norma doesn’t take any bullshit from anyone, and she has no problem standing up for what’s hers.
She loves her children more than anything and will go to any lengths to protect both Norman and Dylan. Norma’s budding romance with sheriff Alex Romero may provide her some respite from the hellscape that is often the rest of her life, and finally someone she can trust. Norma carries the world on her shoulders and only wants the best for her son–she’s flawed, but she never stops trying.
7. Jane Villanueva, Jane the Virgin
Jane Villanueva is the kind of person that we should all aspire to be like. Not only is Jane brilliant, talented, hardworking, and kind, but when the impossible happens, she handles it in the best way she can. She does what’s best for her and her child and when all her best laid plans get thrown out the window, Jane adapts to each new situation.
Throughout Season 1, we get to see her struggle with the idea of becoming a mother and her romantic complications and make decisions the rest of us would definitely find impossible. Jane also finishes college and begins writing her first novel! She’s easily one of the most inspiring characters on television right now.
6. Trish Walker, Jessica Jones
Trish Walker is a bright ray of sunshine on one of the darkest pieces of Marvel content that I’ve ever consumed. She’s open and honest about her feelings, especially with Jessica, and she isn’t afraid to show how much she cares. That kind heart doesn’t mean she can’t protect herself; she’ll do whatever it takes to defend herself and protect Jessica in every way she can. She doesn’t let her dark past cloud her future and she never stops trying to help save everyone. Trish Walker may not have super powers, but she’s absolutely a hero.
5. Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation
I know I’m probably the last person to this party, but I finally watched Parks and Recreation this year, and of course I fell in love with Leslie Knope. I mean, how could you not? Her continual optimism and her love for a town that doesn’t always love her back are equally inspiring and entertaining. Leslie is always trying to help others and she knows how to give the perfect gift. Her love for waffles and for the people around her never fails to warm my heart and put a smile on my face.

I liked all your choices and I would Lena and Stef Adams Foster from The Fosters.
Awesome!! Thank you for reading!
Totally agree about Abby Griffin she is the most intriguing character I’ve found this year (yes late starter on 100) I love her strength vulnerabilities. Everything about her. Especially her budding romance with Kane ?
Absolute praise for Jemma Simmons and thanks for including her on this list. However, many fans would disagree – her plotline this season was not consistent at all, in fact it was the most inconsistent it’s ever been. The writer’s messed up but hopefully the next half of season 3 will be better and Jemma will have even more wonderful scenes.
You’re right the writers did mess up a lot of things this season, I should’ve said out of everything Jemma’s plot was the most interesting. The entire show was inconsistent throughout 3A, fingers crossed 3B will be better. Thanks for reading and for your comment!
Great list! Especially love seeing Simmons from AoS on this list. But I think Felicity Smoak from Arrow should’ve been included.. She’s one of the biggest heroes and best characters on tv today and a real role model. She’s awesome and should always be on lists like this!
I absolutely love all of your picks. Especially Trish and Abbey!
Abby is my favorite character on The 100. From the beginning she was concerned with morality and not afraid to break the law to do it. I still cry when I still tear up when she gets arrested in the first episode and ends up in Clarke’s cell.
