7 Most Unforgettable TV Moments From 2015

These days, watching TV can be a bit of a mindless task. You turn on your favorite channel, surf the internet, eat some dinner, and text your mom, all while enjoying whichever show you’ve tuned in to this week. After a while, the storylines blur together, and it all starts to feel very wash, rinse, repeat.

But every now and then, a scene so awesome will appear on your television screen that you can’t help but stop the clock, put away the phone, and PAY ATTENTION. We’ve selected a few such scenes for recognition this year, as the ones that left you staring in shock, awe, and sometimes sadness.

1. Battle of Hardhome (Game of Thrones)

Has there ever been a more epic battle than the Battle of Hardhome during Game of Thrones‘ fifth season? We don’t think so! The entire episode practically counts as one massive fight scene, with giants and skeletons and white walkers skirmishing everywhere! And then that final stare down between Jon Snow and the Night’s King? We still get chills…

2. Mount Weather Massacre (The 100)

If you started watching The 100 expecting a “teens in space” kind of story, you probably got more than you bargained for, especially when the second season finished out with the main characters essentially committing genocide. This scene packed a powerful punch as Clarke and Bellamy made the terrible decision to kill every man, woman, and child inside Mount Weather to save the lives of their own people. Needless to say, every jaw was on the floor by the end of the episode.

3. Jamie’s Torture/Rape (Outlander)

As hard as it is to watch, Jamie’s rape and torture on Outlander was definitely one of the most outstanding scenes of the year. Performances from both Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies left viewers in stunned silence and heartbreak for poor Jamie Fraser. Outlander wasn’t afraid to go there with the most horrifying and gruesome aspects of Jamie’s ordeal, while still remaining very respectful of the subject matter. Hats off to this incredible scene!

4. Derek’s Death (Grey’s Anatomy)

After ten years of McDreamy’s sexy smiles, we had to bid farewell to Seattle Grace’s dreamiest doctor when Derek found himself the victim of a tragic car accident. The entire episode was a masterpiece, but the truly show-stopping scene occurred when Meredith quietly pulled the plug on her husband’s life support. The fact that a heartbreaking cover of “How To Save A Life” was playing over the whole thing just drove the tears right on home.
