Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: iZombie, The Flash, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Deliver Funniest Moments
This week on TV, The Librarians returned to work and found their match in Moriarty and Prospero. Rumple sort of became a hero on Once Upon a Time, and Constantine paid a visit to Star City on Arrow.
Patty and Barry finally had their first date, and Cisco got to tag along too on The Flash. Paige and Ralph got stuck on a runaway subway train on Scorpion while everyone worked hard to prevent World War Three on Madam Secretary.
Some of our writers share their thoughts on the funniest and most romantic moments from this week in TV. Don’t forget the fight for character of the week! See who made our list.
Funniest Moment
Lyra: Ravi and Blaine’s fight on iZombie. Well was it really a fight? It looked more like a scuffle between two kids after the last chocolate chip cookie. That bad boy is delicious and there will be all sorts of silly slapping and pushing to get it. And can we talk about how Blaine didn’t really hurt Ravi? If he really wanted the cure he couldn’t stabbed Ravi with something and taken it for himself. Instead he rolled around the ground, jumped over tables, and left when the cure was smashed. Why would he do that is the million dollar question?!
Lizzie: Cisco giving Barry instructions on his date with Patty, on The Flash. Look, Cisco’s sarcasm was on point throughout this whole episode, especially when dealing with “Harry”, but he saved his funniest lines for when he was “helping” Blind!Barry get through his date with Patty. But it wasn’t just Cisco, either, it was Barry’s game being on point and ridiculous at the same time, and Patty seeing through it all and Cisco’s facial expressions while all of this was happening. I’m not even going to lie, I had to re-watch this part because I was laughing so hard I missed like half of it.
Jessica: I’m with Lyra on this one. I was worried for about two seconds for Ravi and then greatly amused by their fight.
Christine: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, everyone in the Nine-Nine playing the Halloween costume prank on Boyle. Totally saw it coming, but it was still laugh out loud funny. If you aren’t watching this hilarious show, you must, must, MUST change your mind. It’s Parks and Recreation meets 21 Jump Street.
Allison: Happy’s stand up comedy routine on Scorpion. The combination of her horrible jokes and Sylvester’s over the top laughing had me in tears. I absolutely loved it. Who would have ever expected Happy to do stand up? I need more of that awkwardness.
Caralynn: Merida turning into that CGI bear and attacking Rumple and Belle in Once Upon a Time during “The Bear and the Bow.” For all the wrong reasons. Seriously, this show needs to stop with the CGI, it’s unbearably bad (get it?! …I’ll show myself out).
Most Romantic Moment
Lyra: Private moment between Felicity and Oliver on Arrow. Amongst all this chaos our lead couple still took a moment to step back and catch up with each other. They expressed and talked about some of the concerns they were having. It might seem small but it’s not. It’s a monumental shift for this seasons kinder and gentler Oliver. It also solidifies that the Oliver and Felicity relationship is not going anywhere anytime soon. They are partners in all.
Lizzie: Patty and Barry’s first kiss, on The Flash. I keep telling myself to NOT get attached, but yeah, that’s not working. I’m attached. I adore Patty, and I adore Barry and they’re just so adorable together that it’s impossible for me to do anything but ship it. Their whole date was absurd and amazing and so much fun, and the hand-holding and kissing like the two puppies that they are was just …too much. I can’t. I need more. GIVE ME MORE!
Christine: Rebecca and Greg’s song and dance on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. First of all, Greg is incredibly charming and sweet, and it literally hurts my heart that Rebecca isn’t madly in love with him. His song to her was sweet, funny, and showed everyone that he’s obviously the better man. Greg is the healthy choice. Get ‘outta here Josh Chan!
Allison: Alright, I’m going with Adalind and Nick on Grimm. Before the yelling commences, let me explain! They are nowhere near romantic. Hell, they are former enemies who now have a baby together. However, we saw a much softer side of Adalind, and the scene with Nick making her a sandwich was cute and touching. I’m loving how their weird situation is being handled, and while it wasn’t the most romantic moment of the week, it was unexpectedly cute. Since I am in charge of these Picks of the Week, I can break the rules.
Caralynn: I’m with Christine! I’m loving Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and totally baffled that more people aren’t watching. Greg’s “Settle for Me” number was funny and sad at once, and I loved their date in the episode. It was a shame that Rebecca went and totally blew it up by spontaneously sleeping with Man-Bun.
Character of the Week
Lyra: Sara Lance from Arrow. Across the board BAMF! She defended the weak from creepers in alleyways. Ran away looking beautiful and stylish. Oh and she threw herself through two windows without a scratch. What kind of magic is that?! Move over John Constantine, Sara is the magical one here!
Lizzie: Rumplestiltskin, on Once Upon A Time. I feel like I shouldn’t be picking him, because one good deed does not a hero make, but …but …he finally has at least ONE good deed to his name. And that’s big. He’s never been anything but a coward – and he’s had plenty of chances to change, plenty of reasons. And though this is only the beginning of the journey, the fact that he finally found it within himself to make the hard choice, is a step in the right direction.
Jessica: Liz Taylor, on American Horror Story: Hotel. As inconsistent this recent season has been my heart bleeds for this character. Neither an immortal or a ghost Liz, sublimely played by Denis O’Hara is simply human. His backstory was everything I wanted, a man trapped by society but longing to be more, encouraged by the countess and humiliated but redeemed. It was a nice reminder that AHS is capable of giving us realistic stories among all the camp and horror.
Christine: Michael, on Jane the Virgin. During the entire love triangle with Rafael, Michael’s strength has been in his attitude and his kindness, while Raf came in with the big kisses and being all shirtless and sexy. Michael finally played his “hot” card when he pulled Jane in for the most EPIC kiss in the history of the show. Michael finally showed Jane that HE is the ENTIRE package. Which, I mean, we already knew, because TEAM MICHAEL!
Allison: Dmitri on Madam Secretary. We’ve seen him struggle with his new mission of spying on his own country, but he really came through, even when he was ridiculously drunk. He told Henry what he overheard about Olga. It was something he overheard, and even though he was wasted, he knew that there was something fishy about how the intelligence officers were talking about her visit. Dmitri realized that he can still love and protect Russia by helping the Americans.
Caralynn: Liv Moore on iZombie. I’m just so glad she’s finally not totally miserable! Even though I do think she and Major jumped the gun a bit on reuniting (though that was mostly Major’s doing– she really did try to be practical about it!) Her pep talk to snap Major out of his funk was also a fantastic moment this week.
