Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Arrow, The Originals, and From Dusk Till Dawn Deliver Best Moments
This week on TV, Supergirl took flight while Wicked City began its killing spree. Sleepy Hollow and Bones made their crossover journey, and surprisingly, it was good. Peyton and Blaine crossed paths on iZombie, and Oliver learned that Quentin isn’t as saint-like as he thought on Arrow.
Here’s what some of our writers thought about this week on TV.
Best moment
Lizzie: Oliver and Quentin’s confrontation, on Arrow. I’m not a big Quentin fan. He usually gets on my last nerve, so imagine my surprise at the fact that Paul Blackthorne completely won this week for me. Stephen Amell deserves kudos also, because the scene was perfectly acted. But it’s not even about the acting. It’s about the feeling for the characters – it’s about the things that were said. It’s about Oliver’s heartbreaking confession that all this time, despite everything, he’s been looking for Quentin’s approval. It’s about the older man trying to justify himself, even when he knows nothing is a justification. It’s about the moral compass of the show shattering on the ground and Oliver being left to pick up the pieces.
Lyra: Hayley announcing that she would teach Hope the saying “Always and Forever” on The Originals. For seasons this has been the credo of the Mikaelson family. They have kept it with them during the saddest, happiest, and scariest moments of their lives. It has kept them a family. She’s accepting her daughter’s heritage. It’s about time.
Allison: WELL since Lizzie stole one of my answers (so rude), I’ll go with Seth’s reaction to Kate’s death on From Dusk Till Dawn. He was so hurt, and dammit don’t tell me Seth doesn’t have feelings for her. She’s more than just this “sixteen, seventeen year old girl” to him. He cares about her, and his actions all throughout the rest of the finale prove that. But also, Oliver and Quentin’s conversation on Arrow is one of my all time favorite scenes.
Most shocking scene
Lizzie: Emma reaching into Violet’s chest, taking her heart and MAKING HER TELL HENRY THAT SHE ONLY LIKED HIM AS A FRIEND, on Once Upon a Time. It wasn’t only cruel, it was unthinkable. Emma might be the Dark One, but we thought her love for Henry was above things like this. We thought she’d never hurt him intentionally. We were wrong.
Lyra: *screaming into the night* GLENNNNNN! The Walking Dead killed everyone (the audience) this week. Every episode so far has ended like on a major cliffhanger. This episode was no different. Did Glenn die? Did he survive? WE WON’T KNOW IN THE EPISODE COMING UP EITHER! It’s all about Morgan. I don’t care about Morgan. I want to know if our precious pizza delivery boy unicorn survived. Please don’t keep us devastated for weeks on end! *more screaming into the night* GLENNNNN!
Allison: GET OUT OF MY BRAIN LIZZIE! Emma taking Violet’s heart was absolutely shocking in Once Upon a Time. At that point, it looked like Emma was successfully fighting off the darkness, but there’s no way to deny Emma is more dark in light in Camelot. The darkness has taught Emma that manipulation is the best way to get what you want. The fact that she used Henry of all people shows that Emma may have reached the point of no return.
Storyline we could’ve done without
Lizzie: Again, I think I’ve used a moment from Heroes Reborn EVERY WEEK so far. Have I? Have I? No, but it feels like it. But this week really takes the cake. Because Claire is supposed to be indestructible. They spent FOUR seasons on the original run of Heroes making me believe that she was indestructible. And then they killed her during childbirth because …eh, because the actress didn’t want to do the show, I guess? Nothing else makes sense.
Lyra: Laurel keeping Sara in the basement of her apartment building on Arrow. Come on writers! Laurel is not that stupid (well I didn’t think until this moment.) She’s a lawyer for goodness sake! But somehow she found it ok to chain her insane sister in a dark and cold basement with no amenities? All she gave her was a family picture. Put yourself in Sara’s shoes. You wake up chained, in the clothes you died in, still kind of drugged from your flight, and some lady bringing you an occasional sandwich with some water. But wait, you can’t drink the water because there’s no bathroom! The situation is a hot mess.
Allison: Shelby and Caleb hooking up on Quantico. I don’t ship them at all. I roll my eyes every time they are on screen together. As if that wasn’t enough, the way they got together did not work at all. It felt forced and there wasn’t any fire behind their words. I’m honestly not a huge fan of any of the romance on Quantico because I’d rather focus on the many conspiracy theories, but at least Ryan and Alex have chemistry.

Character of the week
Lizzie: Kara Danvers, as Supergirl. Because she was fun, and she was exciting, and most importantly, she was believable. Girls needed a role model. And now they’ve got one. And if that’s not something to be celebrated, then what is?
Lyra: The Impala from Supernatural. There’s nothing you can say that can make me change my mind. She’s so great that they gave her a whole episode from the perspective of someone sitting inside. This lovely leather clad lady has protected the Winchester brothers since they were little and will continue to do so. She’s been rebuilt, cleaned, buffed, and scrubbed. And every little detail, like the toy shoved in the ashtray, has been maintained. Maybe one day they’ll be able to hand her down to the next Winchester.
Allison: Kate Fuller on From Dusk Till Dawn. Her “final” words to Richie and Scott were amazing. She commented on how all she did was love them, and they gave her nothing in return. Now, she’s all out of love, and she wants them to burn in hell. We’re getting Dark!Kate Fuller next season you guys, and I’m so ridiculously excited.
