4 Things We Need from Doctor Who Season 9
September has finally hit, my dear Whovians. After months of waiting, Doctor Who is finally returning to our screens! You’re probably just as excited as me to jump on the Tardis, explore worlds unknown, and experience adventures that will change your life.
Who wouldn’t?
But before we get lost in the journey of the Doctor and his lovely companions, let’s talk about what we need to keep the show going, keep it shaking, keep it fresh. Sophomore year is where everything we’ve learned the first time around is tested and more weight is put upon us. If Peter Capaldi is to survive for another season, some improvements need to be made.
Here are the 4 things we definitely need for Season 9.
Allonsy!
1. More Grumpy Doctor
Like many others, I started watching Doctor Who when the series returned in 2005. The 9th Doctor was my first bright and quirky Doctor (Christopher Eccleston). I followed it through with the adorable & witty 10th Doctor (David Tennant) and the goofy yet charming, 11th Doctor (Matt Smith). All had a resounding theme of life and exuberance.
The 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi) threw everything we knew about the Doctor’s personality, straight out the window!
He was grumpier, harder, and quicker to jump to conclusions. He didn’t trust as easily and spent half the time being a suspicious grouch. He didn’t even enjoy hugs.

And I loved it. Peter managed to make us reevaluate what we knew and ask, once more, “Doctor Who?”
2. Time for a New Companion
Last season, I thought Clara would be booted from the Tardis. There was just something missing from her connection with the Doctor once he regenerated. The flare was gone. It was completely extinguished when Danny died and the two companions barely spoke about what was really going on in their lives. It was all about the next adventure.
Clara and the Doctor tried, to build their relationship back up to what it was before, but it didn’t work. Each week was a sad attempt at trying to learn who they were to each other without letting go of the past that weighed them down.
It’s time to bring in a new companion.
3. More Missy, Please
Who would’ve thought that the Master would return as a sharp witted, classy lady, ready to take over the world?
I didn’t.

Every time Missy appeared on screen I just wanted to cheer for her. I know, she’s evil, and I should be cheering for the Doctor. But there is just something so tempting about Missy and her desire for power and world domination.
With the return of the infamous River Song, during the Christmas Special, we might even get to see these two battle it out. Sign me up for that!
4. More Companions From the Past
We’ve had Doctors from the past, returning to help. We’ve had visions of old friends, guiding us through tumultuous paths. We’ve even had timey wimey daughters of companions come back and somehow end up marrying the Doctor to save the day. All of them were great; all of them were unforgettable.
I can’t help but want more.
We know you’re busy with Arrow, John Barrowman, but what we wouldn’t give to see you as Captain Jack Harkness once more. The men and women of the universe need to be saved and swept off their feet by you.

Don’t think anyone’s forgotten about you too, Catherine Tate. The Doctor Who verse needs your anger and flare. Plus your stubbornness would be a complete disaster with the Doctor. Sign me up for this showdown as well!

With the Doctor’s return right around the corner, what do you think is needed for Season 9? Agree that we need a little more Jack? Disagree that we need to boot Clara? Leave us your comments below!
