Sense8 Review: I Am Also a We (Season 1 Episode 2)
Holy WOW! New favorite show alert!
Sense8 is blowing my mind — yes, pun intended.
This week, we focus on Will, Nomi, and Lito predominantly, but we also get a small peek at Kala and Wolfgang as they become aware of their connection. It’s a roller coaster of new sensate information, that’s for sure!
Kala and Wolfgang seem to be gearing up for a romance, even though they have yet to speak to each other. When you factor in that Kala very clearly doesn’t love her fiance… yep, forbidden telepath romance, table for two!
But a cross-sensate-love-story had to be in the cards somewhere, and I think these two are the perfect fit.
Lito remains mostly unaware of his abilities, but who can really blame him? He’s juggling a film premiere, a fake girlfriend, a real boyfriend, and a closeted sexuality. That’s a lot for a man to handle, so you can’t really blame him for keeping the freaky mind powers on the back burner.
Outing himself to Daniela, even accidentally, might come back to bite him, though.
She seems cool with it — hell, even a little turned on by it — but volunteering to be Lito’s beard? A short term solution to a long term problem if you ask me. His boyfriend, Hernando, is also possibly the sweetest man alive.
On the other hand, staying closeted becomes a totally understandable decision when you look at Nomi’s story.
Her mother seems like a control freak who took one too many seminars on how to pray-the-gay-away. There is something not right about this doctor she’s enlisted to essentially lobotomize Nomi, whom she refuses to refer to as anything other than Michael. Rude. Let’s just hope that Amanita can rescue Nomi from her mother’s creepy psych-ward imprisonment soon. Preferably before they convince her that she’s going completely bonkers.
Amanita: I will burn this building to the ground before I let anyone touch that beautiful brain.
Speaking of bonkers…
Poor Will.
Besides Riley, he’s possibly the most talented sensate of the group at this point. He’s already shared a full conversation with another member of the Loco Ocho (yeah, I’m calling them that from now on, deal with it), and he’s also managed to make contact with Jonas.
Jonas, our Lost alum, who revealed the name of the Woman in White; Angelica.
It seems Angelica is “mother” of our little “cluster.” Yep, the terminology is getting heavy, so try to keep up!
Naturally, Will thinks he’s losing his mind and seeks out prescription drugs. Solid choice.
Store clerk: Drugs are like shoes. Everyone needs them, but they don’t always fit.
The car chase that capped the episode stands out as the most dynamic scene of the series so far. Will unlocks a new piece of the sensate mythology that I didn’t expect, but the clarification is much appreciated. Not only can the Loco Ocho communicate with each other, they can also mind meld with sensates outside of their group like Jonas.
Will learns this the hard way when he accidentally jump into Jonas car, leaving his own un-piloted. Whoops!
So far, this show is shaping up to be the most bizarre, but also the BEST series I’m currently watching. It’s not for the faint of heart (or mind), that’s for sure, but what else did you expect from the Wachowskis?
If you need me, I’ll be on a Netflix binge!
