CW 2015 Fall Schedule: What’s Back, What’s Missing, and What Can We Look Forward to Most?
Come one, come all, and check out the new fall schedule for your favorite young adult network, The CW.
With that huge wave of renewals in January (the entire fall lineup – all eight shows), plus three new series orders, The CW’s roster was looking a little tight. Many were left wondering how they were planning to fit everything into ten weekday spots!
If you were expecting a lot of big changes and scheduling shifts like me… well then, you’d be wrong.
The CW upfronts Thursday morning brought us a new lineup for fall that looks remarkably similar to the current one.
MONDAY
8:00 pm – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
9:00 pm – Jane the VirginTUESDAY
8:00 pm – The Flash
9:00 pm – iZombieWEDNESDAY
8:00 pm – Arrow
9:00 pm – SupernaturalTHURSDAY
8:00 pm – The Vampire Diaries
9:00 pm – The OriginalsFRIDAY
8:00 pm – Reign
9:00 pm – America’s Next Top Model
I guess the mentality here is, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
The only new series to debut this fall will be the last-minute pickup Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Don’t worry, fellow feminists, I have it on good authority that the narrative of the show is much less derogatory towards women than the title would imply.
With the new series premiering before Jane the Virgin on Mondays, everyone’s favorite vampire family, The Originals, will shift out of its lead-in spot to Thursdays after The Vampire Diaries.
It’s hard to say whether this bump is bad news for The Originals or simply the network’s attempt to inject some new life into both tired series. It certainly seems to suggest that crossovers will be more abundant than they previously have been, now that the two vampire dramas will air back-to-back.
You never have to worry about crossovers for The Flash and Arrow though, especially now that network President Mark Pedowitz has confirmed there will be an annual crossover event in the 4th quarter of both shows. These two superheros have dominated the 2014-2015 season, and they don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon!
Surprisingly absent from the fall lineup is critically acclaimed series, The 100.
Looks like scheduling did not allow for a fall pickup, instead leaving this post-apocalyptic drama to premiere in the spring. No one seems too worried about the delay, even though it will mean a whole 9 months between seasons at best, a full year at worst. Brutal.
Also slated for spring is the much anticipated new DC superhero spinoff, Legends of Tomorrow. If you haven’t checked out the trailer then get on that ASAP.
Tell me that doesn’t look like The CW’s next big smash hit?
Coming as a shock to no one, Reign has been moved to Fridays, where it will likely die a slow and quiet death as all other Friday shows do on the network (RIP: Nikita, Heart of Dixie, & The Carrie Diaries).
The only question now is where Julie Plec’s new series Containment (previously titled Cordon) will go? It’s slated for spring but… ummm… there doesn’t seem to be a lot of wiggle room in 2016 so far. Not with two other series packed into an already crowded lineup.
What do you think of the new old lineup? Where do you see Containment going in the spring?
