The Flash Review: Out of Time (Season 1 Episode 15)
Oh my god.
Do you still need time to adjust? Do you still need time to eat some mint chocolate chip ice cream as you quietly hug your pillow and rock back and forth in the fetal position?
That’s what The Flash “Out of Time” made us do! It came back with a bang, and had us crying, screaming and gasping for a solid hour- not wanting to look away from the screen for even the slightest second. Spoiler alert!
Within two minutes of the episode we are thrown into an extremely awkward double date between Barry and Linda and Iris and Eddie. To say things didn’t go well would be an understatement. It was easy to see how uncomfortable Linda and Eddie were, which made me wonder if any of Iris’ previous boyfriends had ever picked up on the chemistry between our speedster and his crush.
Anyway, Eddie gets called to a crime scene (I’m almost positive he would have created one just to get away from that painful date) and so, of course, Barry follows. What did he see on the way there? Himself. Running. It made no sense, but he carried on to go help Joe. Turns out, the other Marden brother wants revenge for his brother’s death from the pilot. Eddie learns that the Coroner told The Weather Wizard that Joe was the one who killed Clyde, painting a target on his back.

At Star Labs, Barry tells Caitlin and Cisco in passing that someone has put it into Iris’ head that Professor Wells is pretty much diabolically evil. So naturally, Cisco digs a little deeper- and he finds the truth about Wells. He is the Reverse Flash! Watching Cisco cry because of Well’s betrayal hit me in the gut. Wells explained he wasn’t there to kill Barry’s mom all those years ago- he was there to kill Barry… because he needs to get back to his time. He reveals his real name: Eobard Thawne, and says that Eddie is a ‘distant relative.’ My theory? He’s Eddie from the future!
And then something happened that made me freeze as I gasped for air and tried to understand what was happening! Wells walked up to Cisco, and killed him.
Professor Wells/Eobard Thawne: “Forgive me, but to me you’ve been dead for centuries.”
And as Caitlin tried to tell Barry that something seriously messed up was going on with Wells, Barry frantically told her that Mark had Joe, had paralyzed the Captain, and was bringing a Tsunami to Central City. Iris also declared her love for him, and Barry kissed her!
Caitlin said some mumbo jumbo about running really fast in circles, and guess what happened guys? Barry ran so fast that he time travelled!
Remember he saw himself running to the crime scene a couple of nights ago? That’s where he travelled to! It made sense. Way too many things had happened way too quickly for this timeline to stick.
I mean, what is The Flash universe, without Cisco?
The episode cut to Barry looking around, confused and a little nervous. And man, I can’t wait to see what happens when he changes the most minimal detail next week!
Some thoughts:
- Will this new timeline give Iris a better understanding of her feelings?
- Does Barry keep a suit with him in his jacket pocket? Because he changed in front of Iris… just saying.
- Is there any parallel universe in which Iris and Linda can be friends?
