The 100 Review: Blood Must Have Blood Part 1 (Season 2 Episode 15)
Have you recovered from that mind blowing hour of television? Me neither.
In the epic first episode of the two-part season finale of The 100, Murphy’s Law seems to be hard at work. No, not that crazy kid out wandering the desert with Jaha, I’m talking about the little saying “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”
Right off the bat in “Blood Must Have Blood Part 1,” Clarke details their step-by-step plan to free the prisoners inside of Mount Weather.
Naturally, this means that all of it goes to hell about ten minutes in.
First off, Raven and Wick run into a little trouble in the turbine room and end up spilling one of their precious bombs all over the floor. They really should have remembered Wick’s little engineering turn of phrase and brought a spare.
Wick: “Two is one, one is none! Redundancy!”
The next step to go tragically wrong has to do with Clarke’s detonator on the main door. The clever little tech nerds inside Mount Weather jam her frequency, and we almost lose Papa Miller in the scuffle!
Then, of course, the soldiers inside the mountain discover where Bellamy has hidden the remaining Ark kids, making their entire escape attempt useless. Only Jasper, Monty, and Maya escape the round up, and Maya’s silver fox of a father dies in the process.
Most shocking of all is Lexa’s deal with Cage to free her own people in exchange for Clarke’s.
I guess I should have seen that coming, with how closed off and unemotional Lexa has been all year. But honestly, she seemed to be warming up to Clarke and the Sky People in the past few episodes. The alliance was strong. To see her send them to their deaths like that is brutal.
Lexa: “I made this choice with my head and not my heart.”
The only thing worse than watching Lexa try to remain stoic is the utter devastation and betrayal on Clarke’s face. Not only has she just realized that her friends are about to be slaughtered, she also has to deal with the revelation that the girl she has grown so close to has just mercilessly turned on her. And I thought eighteen was a rough year for me…

Our final shot is Clarke standing alone in front of the door to Mount Weather, refusing to let this battle go. Without her new Grounder army, she is a one-woman fighting force, but frankly that might be all she needs. Clarke has proven time and again the she is capable of just about anything when she is determined enough.
And that look on her face? Sheer determination.
Other thoughts:
- Clarke chanting with the Grounders is so intense.
- Jason Rothenberg got it right. Octavia is neither a Sky Person nor a Grounder. She’s a Blake. Hang tight Bellamy, your baby sister is coming to save you!
- Raven and Wick are melting my heart, guys.
- So is Clexa like… over? Or what?
