Silo Season 3 Episode 4 Review: The Tide is Turning for Juliette

The stakes for everyone are increased exponentially on Silo Season 3 Episode 4, “Whatever You Do, Don’t Go Home.”

After her failed attempt to kill Juliette in the mines, Camille focuses on finding her to finish the job. At the same time, Lukas works to reunite with Juliette, while Shirley actively keeps her hidden from Camille and the raiders.

Elsewhere, Daniel and Helen find themselves digging deeper down the rabbit hole that is Charlotte’s mysterious mission. This lands them face-to-face with forces capable of making them and everyone they love disappear.

However, with the country facing a potential nuclear war, they’ll have to continue to put their lives at risk to uncover the dark truth.

Muscle Memory Kicking In

Despite her cover being blown and being forced back on the run, Juliette’s reunion with Shirley and the slow but steady recovery of slivers of her memory are the stand-out moments of this episode.

We know that Juliette’s dedication to the truth and doing the right thing has gained her lifelong friends who are willing to risk their lives for her. But she doesn’t remember that, making Knox and Shirley’s actions in this outing that much more symbolic.

Without Knox’s willingness to continuously get roughed up for the sake of those he loves, Shirley never would’ve made it past the gates of medical.

Thanks to their help and Shirley’s in-depth knowledge of the silo’s secrets, more and more of Juliette’s memories are coming back, including the memory of George.

It’s a nice little throwback to the simpler times of season one, when she experienced genuine moments of joy, despite how sparingly they were. Now, peace and tranquility are a thing of the past, with nothing but hardships in her future if she wishes to stay alive.

During their mission to the lower depths of the silo, Juliette’s muscle memory kicks back in, coming to the rescue just in time. While everyone else is under the guise that Martha completely sealed off the digger void, Juliette’s body knows that isn’t the case.

It’s those same innate feelings that tell Juliette she can trust Shirley. While she might not remember their mutual feelings for one another, through that muscle memory, she knows that if something were to happen to Shirley, her instincts would be to kill whoever harmed her.

That level of love and protectiveness isn’t something that can be erased so easily, and will ultimately be a defining factor that helps her fully regain her memories down the line. And with how things are playing out so far, it seems we could be close to her remembering her old life.

After all, the episode ends on quite the shocking revelation: Bernard is alive!

Unlike what she was told after emerging from her coma, he is actively recovering in the digger void, and if there’s anyone who can help her remember the dark mechanics fueling the silo, it’s him.

A Secret Ally on the Inside?

As Camille continues to deal with the duty of doing The Algorithm’s deeds, Robert continues to try being as supportive as he can be. We see the two discussing The Algorithm’s wish to get rid of Juliette, eventually leading to Robert offering to kill her himself.

However, while his love for Camille remains true, it’s clear that Robert has his own hesitations. He doesn’t come off as entirely comfortable with taking orders from a faceless machine that continues to threaten mass extinction if Camille can’t follow orders.

With these new developments, it leads me to believe that he could be a secret ally behind enemy lines.

Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, Nurse Amy mentions to Juliette that someone else told her to switch the medication before Juliette caught on and began spitting the pills out.

Additionally, Robert knew exactly where Juliette planned to hide out. Without having prior communication with Nurse Amy, the chances of him guessing where she’d end up are like one in a million.

Not only that, but he also has to be the one who faked Bernard’s death. After all, we did see Robert strangling him in the incinerator room in a flashback, which means he was putting on a show for the cameras.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait to see if that’s the case, as Juliette’s instincts tell her to bolt away the instant she lays eyes on him. After all, until now, there’s been no hint at Robert potentially playing the field and switching sides.

So, what could be the defining factor forcing him to switch his loyalty elsewhere? My guess: his desire to return to a somewhat normal life with his son.

One Step Closer to the Truth

Now almost halfway through the season, it’s evident that my expectations for the Before Timeline were set way too high. That’s not to say that we haven’t learned any crucial information yet, but the storyline is moving a dash too slowly for my enjoyment.

There isn’t a whole lot of new details unveiled in this outing, as we’re already aware that Daniel and Helen are being tracked by government officials. The only real piece of knowledge uncovered is the revelation of just how far the government will go to keep their secrets buried.

Phone numbers connected to relatives of Charlotte’s squadron that worked days prior are now no longer in service, their source with the recording of Charlotte’s crash has disappeared, and an unknown man connected in high places within the government is offering them resources in exchange for silence.

Well, technically speaking, Helen is the only one offered anything, as Charlotte’s continued care is threatened in the case of Daniel speaking out. For a moment, the two seem to take the threat seriously, parting ways as they figure out what to do.

Thankfully, Daniel’s friend comes in clutch at the end with seemingly new information that is so unbelievable it leads him to return to Helen’s side.

While Daniel might be the only one under the guise of their first meeting being a date, there is a part of me that hopes this slow burn of them becoming partners eventually turns into them realizing the feelings they hold for one another.

Stray Thoughts:

• Will Lukas be able to convince Patrick to believe him about the terrain of the outside world? Or will Juliette be the one to have to break the news after regaining her memories?
• We’re now four episodes in, and there’s been no sighting of Carla, despite her being the head of supply. Could her shadow, Glenda, be a factor in her disappearance and Orla Kent’s death?
