Silo Season 3 Episode 2 Review: An Eye-Opening Revelation

Silo Season 3 Episode 2, “It’s All Good,” introduces Juliette to her allies waiting in the shadows to help when the time comes.

Not only does this outing effectively set up a natural trail toward answers for Juliette to follow, but it also provides an added layer of emotional depth and expansive world-building.

The Before Timeline works to break down further the inception of the silo’s, the trials of the memory-altering compound, and factors leading to the fallout of the world.

An Army in Hiding

Juliette, being the persuasive and formidable leader that fans have come to love, isn’t letting a little memory loss get her down in the dumps.

Through her efforts on “It’s All Good,” she learns that not only is she being heralded as a godhead to the public, but that there are many who are willing to help her in her quest for answers, even if that means risking their own safety.

With Juliette being so beloved by many in the lower levels of the silo, it feels natural that we’re seeing her explore so early in the season.

Not only because of the intrinsic curiosity that comes with dealing with amnesia, but also so she can begin to get her lay of the land again, without input from Camille or The Algorithm. If we’re being honest, Juliette already has an innate sense of urgency and apprehension, so her memory lapse only makes it that much more prominent.

Sandy: Do you remember that, really? Or are you just remembering what you’ve been shown?

We see that willingness to risk safety on full display through the actions of Patrick, Sandy, and Danny. Without their input, there’s no telling when Juliette would have gotten the opportunity to learn something of substance about her time outside the gates of the silo.

There are still many unanswered questions, but Juliette now knows that she likely did travel to another silo, she needs to be wary of those in leadership roles, and that what she believes are memories of her life beforehand could, in fact, be crafted illusions.

An Unbreakable Bond

Juliette’s impromptu meeting with Martha and her conversation with Knox are arguably the best moments of “It’s All Good.”

While she can’t remember the logistics of her friendships, the actions of Juliette’s loved ones make it clear to her that she has a safety net to fall back on when she needs it.

Contrary to what the episode title suggests, things are not so peachy, and what Juliette really needs is a swift kick in the rear to get her focused on the important factors. And who better than Martha to provide that sense of clarity?

The chemistry between Rebecca Ferguson and Harriet Walker is unmatched. Not only because we’re so used to their interactions, but because of how effortlessly they play off one another.

Martha: You see, the person I risked my life for, she was a fighter. She would have fought with every inch of stubbornness, arrogance, and pigheadedness in her body.

Through her conversation with Martha, she learns she needs to keep trusting her gut, but through her conversation with Knox, she realizes the depth of the genuine love that those in the lower levels have for her.

Knox’s commentary also offers a fresh perspective on Juliette’s earlier interaction with Shirley.

Unaware of how deep their roots run, Juliette can’t comprehend the immense pain Shirley feels. To her, that moment was simply another conversation she was forced to endure with the public, but for Shirley, it’s a moment that metaphorically breaks her heart in two.

With the newfound knowledge, we can only hope that Juliette’s next interaction with Shirley isn’t as stoic as their first encounter.

Knox: When you first came back, Shirl camped outside your hospital room for ten days straight. Wouldn’t leave your side. I practically had to carry her back down to mechanical. Then the rumors started that you had lost a lot of your memory in the fire, but Shirl wasn’t having it. You wouldn’t forget her. She ran up 144 levels to be there your first time out in the cafeteria, waited in the back, let everybody else get their piece of you, and then when it was her turn, you looked straight through her.”

The Beginning of the End

In stark contrast to the dark, grunge aesthetic we’re so used to inside the silo, the Before Timeline is like a drastic breath of fresh air. We’re privy to the beautiful landscape and an alluring aesthetic full of vibrant colors, amid the slow descent into chaos.

Daniel quickly learns that Charlotte’s bout of amnesia isn’t due to her injury, but rather because of her doctor. The scenario provides the audience’s first look at the beginning stages of the memory-altering compound used within the silos in the present timeline.

Aside from the continued world-building and the minuscule details that help tie the story together, there’s not much happening in the past timeline. Besides the memory-altering compound, the only other vastly important detail that viewers are privy to is that Charlotte’s mission wasn’t to bomb Iran.

In fact, rather, it was to get bunker boosters, which is a clear indication that the construction for the silo’s are already underway in this timeline.

One aspect that seems to hinder the storytelling in both timelines is that we frequently jump back and forth. Rather than giving each timeline one or two scenes before switching, it would be more effective to break them up into 10 or 15-minute spurts.
