Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Is Voit Really Gone?

Cue Hairspray’s “I Can Hear the Bells,” as we seemingly celebrate the end of Voit’s storyline. Could it really be that Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 10, “Bad Blood,” puts an end to this never-ending story?

For a moment, it seemed like there was no Criminal Minds: Evolution without Voit. As if the show could only go on if the writers found new ways to connect the unsubs back to the Sicarius Killer.

But as Rossi closes the folder that contains the manuscript of the book he wrote about Voit, Voit disappears into oblivion, and he “shall not darken the door of the BAU ever again,” or at least we hope so.

Even though Garcia strongly believed Voit had changed, the rest of the BAU hadn’t made a clear decision. It has been particularly interesting to watch Rossi’s interactions with Voit because they are each other’s haunting conscience.

But as the episode prepares us to say goodbye to Voit (more on that later), it also brings the Rossi and Voit relationship full circle.

There are two moments in which we come to fully understand what the Sicarius Killer chapter has meant to Rossi and how his thoughts and beliefs have changed. The first one happens on the plane ride when he admits the Voit who escaped prison isn’t Sicarius; he is just a desperate dad.

Without saying as much, Rossi is accepting that the near-death experience has changed the core of who Voit is. He is finally accepting there is a possibility that the killer is no more.

The second instance comes when Rossi protects Voit’s daughter in front of the BAU Director. He knows the truth. He knows the wound in her hand comes from having stabbed Crowley, but he chooses to protect her because he knows what Voit has done.

This is quite interesting because Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 10, “Bad Blood,” focuses heavily on the idea that darkness can be inherited. When protecting Holly, it doesn’t feel like Rossi believes this.

However, the episode leads viewers to believe it might be true. On the one hand, we discover the identity of Crowley’s father. He was a man who led a cult and committed terrible acts of violence.

Could it be that Crowley inherited his darkness?

On the other hand, Holly is the one to murder Crowley. We’ve seen her try to kill her own father, and the episode shows us she approached Crowley at a talk to ask whether the murderer gene was real.

If we focused solely on Holly, we could say this episode has led us to believe the murderer gene can be inherited.

There are a few scenes during Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 10, “Bad Blood,” that make us believe Voit will end the episode dead.

The first one comes when the BAU Director announces he has given the order to shoot on sight. This means that whenever Voit is seen, officers have permission to simply shoot him.

In the same breath, he tells Rossi and Prentiss that when they find Voit, they will end him. This seems to have been Rossi’s goal for a long time, but when the moment comes, neither he nor Emily agree that it’s the right thing to do.

The last moment comes when Voit calls Rossi. Even though he knows the call is traceable, he doesn’t shy away from it, but he also doesn’t ask for help. All Voit does is say he called to hear Rossi’s voice and say goodbye.

Pairing these scenes together makes viewers think Voit isn’t going to make it. While he does survive, he is taken to an undisclosed location, and we’re never to hear of him again. One way or another, this is the end of Voit.

There are a few moments throughout the episode that stand out. The first one comes when Luke lies unconscious after the bomb goes off at the old factory.

When we see him, we don’t know what to believe. As the dog approaches him and starts licking him, viewers may feel like it’s Luke’s dead dog coming to get him. But as we watch him make it through the doors, we realize she has come to save him. It’s a nice trick to keep us on our toes.

The other moment comes when Luke, Tyler, Garcia, and JJ drive Henry to college in San Diego. It’s a beautiful reminder of the found family we love so much.

But because this is Criminal Minds: Evolution we’re talking about, the episode ends on a dark note. The BAU Director introduces a new case, preparing us for what’s to come next season.
