Dark Winds Renewed for Season 5 Ahead of Season 4 Premiere on AMC

Dark Winds has received an early Season 5 renewal at AMC.

The show’s fourth season premieres on Sunday, February 15, at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+. It will be released weekly in eight, one-hour episodes. 

Dark Winds Season 4 “focuses on the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime,” per its logline.

The upcoming season stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison.

A. Martinez will reprise his role of Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena from the second and third seasons. 

Dark Winds Season 4 also includes guest stars Franka Potente as Irene Vaggan, Isabel DeRoy-Olson as Billie Tsosie, Chaske Spencer as Sonny, Luke Barnett as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, and Titus Welliver as Dominic McNair.

Star and executive producer Zahn McClarnon will also make his TV directorial debut during Dark Winds‘ fourth season.

“Thank you to Kristin Dolan, Dan McDermott, and all of AMC Networks for continuing to support and believe in Dark Winds,” McClarnon said in a statement.

“It’s such a privilege to embody the character of Joe Leaphorn, and I’m excited to return to Santa Fe with this amazing cast and crew to craft another thrilling season of the show that means so much to all of us,” McClarnon added.

Dark Winds Season 5 will begin filming in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in March. It will also consist of eight, hour-long episodes, which are set to debut in 2027.

“For four seasons now, AMC Networks has provided us with the opportunity to entertain audiences through the unique lens of a traditional crime story set on the Navajo Nation in 1972,” executive producer and showrunner John Wirth shared.

The series is based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman and created by Graham Roland. 

Dark Winds is executive produced by Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Thomas Brady, Max Hurwitz, Vince Gerardis, and Anne Hillerman.

Dark Winds Season 4 premieres on Sunday, February 15, at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+.
