High Potential Season 2 Episode 6 Review: Chasing Ghosts

High Potential, Reviews

A classic ghost story can regenerate a show. This is the case with High Potential Season 2 Episode 6, “Chasing Ghosts.” The show attempts a Halloween spooktacular event.

It ends up being one of the show’s most entertaining storylines of the season so far.

Morgan and Karadec investigate a possible haunted house. We know from the start that a reasonable explanation will be found for the haunting because this ABC hit isn’t heavy on paranormal activity. However, we would have loved High Potential: The Haunting spin-off series.

Someone call the producers, I have a pitch. Just imagine a version of the show with Morgan as a ghost hunter. It’s the show we deserve.

Nevertheless, “Chasing Ghosts” is an entertaining representation of High Potential at its strongest. It’s funny, has an intriguing mystery, a fun payoff, and some whackiness that you can’t help but appreciate.

The main mystery is what makes this a highlight in the season so far. You find yourself intrigued by it. The show creates a mystery that unfolds with a thread of intrigue, becoming increasingly interesting as the episode progresses.

It starts as a simple haunting story. Then we get into the background of the house and the famous lovers who have their romance turn sour in such a dramatic fashion. It’s the kind of love story that people yearn for, then dread when it falls apart.

It sounds like a truly painful love story, so no wonder it becomes the source of a ghost story.

That storyline then morphs into an equally painful divorce story that becomes a scorned wife trying to get revenge. Finally, it settles on an attempt at theft for a big payout.

Sometimes, High Potential goes a couple of steps too far with the twists and turns, but they all work on “Chasing Ghosts.” We know this won’t turn into a real ghost story, so we aren’t expecting that, but everything ties nicely.

The episode is still a ghost story of sorts because the ghosts live in the broken promises, the heartbreak, and the lies.

These are the real ones that haunt the characters on “Chasing Ghosts.” The ghosts also play a major role in solving the mystery. It all comes back to them.

In addition to the great mystery, the tone of the episode is really fun. You can tell the cast and crew are enjoying the ridiculous nature of the storyline because it has a tone that feels light and fun.

Episodes are more enjoyable when you can tell the crew enjoyed making them.

Overall, “Chasing Ghosts” isn’t going to change the trajectory of the season. It’s more of a filler episode, but that’s what makes it so entertaining. It’s a one-off in honor of Halloween that showcases the lighthearted nature of the show, and that’s how it should be: fun, silly, and intriguing.

Stray Thoughts
  • I really like Morgan’s outfits on “Chasing Ghosts.”
  • The Ava and Morgan issues aren’t that interesting to me. I know they’ll resolve it.
  • Seeing Karadec use Halloween to dress as a cop is so cute, funny, and sweet.
  • I am more convinced a romance continues to brew between Morgan and Wagner….still not sure how I feel about it.
  • I want more haunted house episodes.
