DEXTER: NEW BLOOD Season 1 Episode 2 David Magidoff on Returning to Dexter: Resurrection as Teddy Reed

David Magidoff on Returning to Dexter: Resurrection as Teddy Reed

Dexter: New Blood, Interviews

When Dexter Morgan returned to our screens in 2021 with Dexter: New Blood, he brought a whole new cast of characters with him. One of those characters is Teddy Reed, the newly appointed officer of Iron Lake, played by the charming David Magidoff.

By the end of Dexter: New Blood, the character had made his mark on the Dexter universe, so much so that when the creators decided to revisit Dexter with Dexter: Resurrection, Magidoff was asked to return.

I recently spoke with David Magidoff about his role as Teddy Reed and returning for Dexter: Resurrection. (You can watch the full interview below.)

Magidoff began by discussing how he first got the role and what it felt like to be called back later for Dexter: Resurrection

“It was an audition for Dexter: New Blood, right — like us actors do, and it was great. I’m not a cop, but I think that’s the whole point: Teddy’s not a cop. Like he’s a cop, but one of the lines I say is ‘I’m two and a half weeks on the force,'” Magidoff explained.

“I really didn’t think I’d ever see Teddy again. So the fact that I got the phone call about Dexter: Resurrection is really fun, and I love what they ended up doing, which I can’t say anything about, of course.”

Magidoff couldn’t discuss the specifics of Resurrection yet, as it premieres July 11th on Paramount+ with Showtime, but he could talk about the broad strokes.

When asked about Teddy coming into his own in the newest spin-off, Magidoff was excited to discuss how things are slightly different for Teddy during this series.

“Teddy has to step up more, for sure,” Magidoff said. “Teddy is put into more uncomfortable situations where he is asked more than his experience is allowed. So, will he rise to the challenge? We’ll find out.”

“I’m doing a few episodes, but it’s meatier than what I did in New Blood.  It was really fun to dig into the scenes. I got to work with some great people,” he added.

Our conversation steered towards discussing why people should tune in for this follow-up series and what scenes from New Blood he enjoyed working on the most.

“Who doesn’t wanna see more of Dexter?” Magidoff said.

As Dexter universe fans will know, this new series’ cast is also incredibly stacked. “Michael C. Hall, me, Uma Thurman, and Peter Dinklage! What a cast.”

As for New Blood, Magidoff noted that he didn’t have many scenes of consequence during the series, but the ones he did love came during the moments in the caves.

“The episode where I’m with Julia Jones, Chief Angela Bishop, and we’re crawling through the caves was amazing. They just completely created from scratch, these caves, which we had to crawl through on a sound stage, which was really special,” he recalled.

“When you get to work with people who are so excellent at their craft, it’s the joy of doing this business.”

Magidoff went on to speak more about why we need another sequel. “I think Michael [C. Hall] will be the first to tell you in a really beautiful, human kind of way,” he said. ‘He is like, ‘You know what? Maybe we should keep this going.'”

“I think he realized what we all know is just how special this show is because you have this central figure who acts on how we all feel, right? Like, we all have those bad thoughts. And he takes it out on the bad people.”

Ultimately, Magidoff is excited to be a part of something so special to fans of the original series. As he said during our conversation, “Teddy, he’s all of us,” he’s just “happy to be included.”
