1. Squid Game

The dystopian thriller series is a critically acclaimed Netflix original. It revolves around a secret contest where players risk their lives to participate in a series of children’s games that have been turned deadly for the chance to win a monetary prize. The third and final season of Squid Game was released on June 27th.

Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon.

2. The Waterfront

This crime drama from Kevin Williamson is full of summer vibes, taking place on the coast of North Carolina. The Waterfront centers on a dysfunctional family and their family fishing business, which they’ll stop at nothing to save.

It stars Hold McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Danielle Campbell, and Rafael L. Silva.

3. Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom originally premiered on TNT in 2016. If you like The Waterfront, this one should probably be next on your list. Not only does its cast include one of the stars of The Waterfront, but it’s also another crime drama centered on a dysfunctional family.

It’s set in Oceanside, California, and stars Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, and Finn Cole.

4. Ginny & Georgia

The mother-daughter drama also has its elements of dysfunctional family and crime, though it’s a bit more emotional and heartfelt. Ginny & Georgia centers on 15-year-old Ginny, her mother, Georgia, and her younger brother, Austin, as they put down roots in a New England town after years on the run.

It’s a Netflix original series, and its third season premiered last monthGinny & Georgia stars Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter, and Raymond Ablack.

5. Blindspot

Originally premiering in 2015 on NBC, Blindspot follows a mysterious woman who wakes up with no memory of who she is. Her body is covered with intricate tattoos that contain clues to crimes that a team of FBI agents has to solve.

The series was recently added to Netflix in the U.S. and is perfect for a summer binge. Blindspot was created by Martin Gero and stars Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ashley Johnson, Ukweli Roach, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

6. The Sandman

The Netflix original series The Sandman premiered in 2022 and is based on the DC comic book series by Neil Gaiman. The second and final season follows Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds.

The first six episodes of The Sandman Season 2 were released on July 3rd. Episodes 7-11 will be released on July 24th, and the final episode will be released on July 31st. 

7. Mr. Robot

Created by Sam Esmail, Mr. Robot originally premiered on USA Network in 2015. The drama series stars Rami Malek as Elliot, a cybersecurity engineer and hacker who struggles with social anxiety disorder, clinical depression, and dissociative identity disorder.

Elliot is recruited by an insurrectionary anarchist known as “Mr. Robot,” played by Christian Slater, to join a group of hacktivists called “fsociety.” All four seasons of this critically acclaimed series were recently added to Netflix.
