Before Watching ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ Revisit Previous Fear Street Films
Get ready to head back to Shadyside with Netflix’s latest addition to the Fear Street universe, Fear Street: Prom Queen.
Based on the hit R. L. Stine book series, which involves slasher and supernatural elements, the film’s overall story revolves around teenagers who work to break the curse that has hung over their town for hundreds of years.

To prepare for the latest installment—despite Fear Street: Prom Queen being an entirely new tale that has nothing to do with the previous three films—we’ve compiled a recap of the past three films to catch you up to speed on the important details.
Fear Street Part One: 1994
This installment introduces viewers to the small town of Shadyside, which has a long and bloody history of brutal killings. The story begins with a gruesome murder at a mall.
Teenager Deena Johnson (Kiana Madeira) and her friends discover that the recent killings are connected to an ancient curse tied to a witch named Sarah Fier (also played by Kiana Madeira), who was executed in 1666.

Deena, her brother Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.), her ex-girlfriend Sam (Olivia Scott Welch), and friends Kate (Julia Rehwald) and Simon (Fred Hechinger) find themselves hunted by resurrected killers from the town’s past after Sam accidentally disturbs Sarah Fier’s grave.
As they dig deeper, they learn that Sarah’s curse has plagued Shadyside for centuries, causing residents to commit horrific acts. The group tries to protect Sam, who appears to be marked by the curse, leading to a deadly showdown.
By the end, only a few survive—and they realize that the curse is far from over, setting up the next chapter in the trilogy.
Fear Street Part Two: 1978
The second installment in Netflix’s Fear Street horror trilogy takes place at Camp Nightwing during the summer of 1978 and serves as a prequel to Fear Street Part One: 1994.
Viewers follow the story of sisters Ziggy (Sadie Sink) and Cindy Berman (Emily Rudd), who are from the cursed town of Shadyside. As tensions rise between Shadysiders and the more privileged kids from Sunnyvale, a sinister force tied to the town’s dark past awakens.

When a camp counselor becomes possessed and embarks on a killing spree, the campers must fight for their lives. The film reveals more about the witch Sarah Fier and the origins of the curse plaguing Shadyside.
Fear Street Part Three: 1666
Fear Street Part Three: 1666 takes viewers back to the origins of the curse that has haunted the town of Shadyside for centuries.
In part three, Deena has a vision that puts her in the body of Sarah Fier in the year 1666. She experiences the events that lead to the town’s curse firsthand.

Sarah Fier is blamed for witchcraft after a series of dark events. However, the truth is that the real evil comes from a powerful family using dark magic to gain wealth and control.
Sarah is wrongly accused and hanged, and her name becomes the symbol of the curse. Deena realizes that Sarah isn’t evil—she is a victim.
The movie then jumps back to 1994 for a final showdown, where Deena and her friends use what they’ve learned to try and end the curse once and for all and break a cycle of violence that started centuries ago.
