The Better Sister Premiere Date Released by Prime Video

The Better Sister, a new limited series starring and executive produced by Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, debuts this May on Prime Video.

The series is based on the book by bestselling author Alafair Burke that focuses on “the terrible things that drive sisters apart and ultimately bring them back together.”

All eight episodes of The Better Sister are set to premiere on Thursday, May 29. 

Biel stars as Chloe Taylor, “a high-profile media executive,” who “lives a picturesque life with her handsome lawyer husband Adam and teenage son Ethan by her side,” per Prime Video’s description.

Banks portrays Chloe’s “estranged sister Nicky,” who “struggles to make ends meet and stay clean.”

“When Adam is brutally murdered, the prime suspect sends shockwaves through the family, reuniting the two sisters as they try to untangle a complicated family history to discover the truth behind his death.”

The Better Sister stars Biel as Chloe Taylor, Banks as Nicky Macintosh, Corey Stoll as Adam Macintosh, Kim Dickens as Detective Nancy Guidry, Maxwell Acee Donovan as Ethan Macintosh, Bobby Naderi as Detective Matt Bowen, Gabriel Sloyer as Jake Rodriguez, and Gloria Reuben as Michelle Sanders.

The series also stars Matthew Modine as Bill Braddock and Lorraine Toussaint as Catherine Lancaster.

“I’m excited for people to see it unfold, who don’t know how the book ends, and all the twists and turns that are about to happen,” Elizabeth Banks exclusively told Glamour.

“I love a whodunit. And what’s fun about the series is that we’re all chess pieces getting moved around. Each episode sort of explores the level of control each person has at any given time,” Banks continued.

The adaptation of Burke’s book was announced in May 2024.

“Beyond being an enticing thriller full of twists and turns, The Better Sister is a gripping story about family feuds and forgiveness,”  Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement, per Variety.

The series is in the best hands to bring Alafair Burke’s original IP to life for our global Prime Video customers.”

Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado are executive producers and showrunners of The Better Sister. Series director Craig Gillespie and Annie Marter executive produce the series through Fortunate Jack Productions.

The show’s executive producers also include Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner through Tomorrow Studios (One Piece), Biel and Banks, Michelle Purple, and Kerry Orent. Amazon MGM Studios and Tomorrow Studios (part of ITV Studios) produce The Better Sister.
