Prime Target Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Kaplar
Prime Target Season 1 Episode 4, “Kaplar,” is another slow-moving episode, but it does at least introduce us to another aspect of the conspiracy.
Ed infiltrates Kaplar Institute, hoping to get his hands on Safiya’s research, but instead, he makes a surprising discovery: Kaplar has access to the footage that the NSA collects as part of the Syracuse operation.
There are still a lot of questions as to why this sharing of intel began and what the NSA is getting out of this deal, but the show still has time to answer that part of the puzzle.

This leak/sharing of intel is an interesting development, and it makes Taylah’s partnership with Ed even more precarious. There’s now an added layer of tension, wondering what side Taylah might take when she learns the truth.
Speaking of Ed and Taylah, they do make a good team.
One nice aspect about their partnership is that it’s not Ed being a genius and Taylah constantly having to be filled in. Taylah gets the opportunity to share some of her skills during “Kaplar” and even has to walk Ed through how to do something.
It could have been very easy to make Ed a lot more independent, not needing Taylah to do much, but it would not have been as entertaining. The two still have a long way to go before they can fully trust each other, but they are off to a good start.

Hopefully, future episodes will feature the two of them getting to know each other more, so we can become invested in their partnership/potential friendship. That’s one thing this series is missing so far — characters we care about.
Granted, we are only four episodes in, but Prime Target needs to invest more time into developing Ed and Taylah outside of the conspiracy, so we will care about their well-being if they happen to end up in a life-or-death situation.
The way this show is going, it’s only a matter of time before someone tries to kill either of them, and it would be nice if we cared if they survived.

The introduction of Jane, Taylah’s superior, is done well. We don’t spend a lot of time with her, but Prime Target gives us enough to understand the weight of her role and connection to Taylah.
We get enough of a glimpse of their relationship to understand that it is a bit more than boss and employee. There’s a bond there that causes both women to trust the other a bit more than they would another co-worker.
So when the final moments of the episode come and Jane indicates she knows about someone sharing data from Syracuse with Kaplar, we know that Taylah will take this betrayal hard.
