High Potential Season 1 Episode 13 Review: Let’s Play
High Potential has had an all-right start to the series. We have seen plenty of fun and exciting episodes, but none have taken us on a thrill ride. High Potential Season 1 Episode 13, “Let’s Play” rectifies that error.
Morgan and the detectives face a serial game player with deadly intent, similar to villains you might see in movies such as Se7en. This gamer ends the season on a major high. It brings the audience into a thrilling cat-and-mouse game, with a worthy adversary to Morgan.
They may have equal levels of intelligence and that’s super exciting as a storyline moving forward.

The minute we see him at the end, we know this isn’t a casual attempt at flirting. He is Morgan’s new enemy.
High Potential is too smart to have some man show up who isn’t this mysterious game player. However, because we know this is the end of the season and episode, it’s setting him up to become a recurring villain. That gives Season 2 an intriguing layer.
It’s exhilarating when a police procedural has a recurring villain. Therefore, High Potential kicking off Season 2 with this added obstacle puts it ahead of many of its predecessors and competitors.
This development could almost act as a restart to the series.

The show could keep this guy around all season to antagonize Morgan, while maintaining the weekly cases. This new complication gives the upcoming season a lot to work with.
Plus, it could take notes from series like Hannibal or Found and make the bad guy a part of the show. He could toy with Morgan by helping her solve cases to try to outsmart her.
Yes, this new addition has so many possibilities.
David Giuntoli as this mysterious figure also adds to the intrigue. He’s a good actor who we know will bring something interesting.

High Potential also continues the intrigue by not giving us any real answers on Roman. It just builds on that and confirms what we expected: he’s still alive.
At first, it’s a bit frustrating that we don’t get many developments with the Roman case but then you come to understand that High Potential is playing the long game. We’ll find out what happened to Roman, and where he is, but not yet.
That’s maybe a development for Season 3. Many season finales aim to close a chapter or hook you with a major cliffhanger. High Potential delivers on the cliffhanger but the season finale seems more to build towards next season.
We don’t know where this mystery will lead but we’re hooked.
Stray Thoughts
- Morgan and Karadec have a small moment but the writers know what they’re doing.
- Surprised we see Tom return — guess they’re not over yet.
- I feel like we heard Daphne and Oz’s names mentioned more than ever in this episode, just in case we needed to know
- I like that Ronnie made another appearance. Glad to see he is likely becoming a recurring character.
- All the family moments were so sweet.
