Devil May Cry Trailer and Release Date Confirmed by Netflix

Devil May Cry, a new urban fantasy animated series, will premiere Thursday, April 3rd, on Netflix.

The premiere date was confirmed yesterday in a trailer debuting the series’ opening title sequence. The credits employ stylized coloring choices and graphic design, and the sequence is set to “Rollin’” by Limp Bizkit.

Devil May Cry is based on the action video game franchise of the same name, created by Hideki Kamiya and developed by Capcom. The series follows the demon hunter Dante (named in tribute to Dante Alighieri, poet of The Inferno.)

A half-demon himself, Dante is out to avenge the deaths of his mother and brother. He is distinguished by his white hair and red jacket. He also uses a sword and twin pistols to carry out his hunts.

All of these features are carried over into Netflix’s new Dante. Prolific anime and video game voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch (Bleach, Trigun) is playing Dante, stepping in for previous Dante actor Reuben Langdon.

A teaser for the series first debuted back in September 2024, showing off the series’ heightened action and animation style. Devil May Cry is being animated by Studio Mir, which is known for The Legend of Korra and My Adventures with Superman.

Devil May Cry is only the latest video game franchise to score an animated adaptation on Netflix.

Series creator Adi Shankar previously worked as an executive producer on Netflix’s Castlevania, and Devil May Cry looks to be made in the same vein as Castlevania. It will turn an action-horror video game franchise into an anime-influenced series.

Devil May Cry was previously adapted as an anime in 2007, Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, which ran for one 12-episode season. The first series was in continuity with the games, set between the original game and its sequel. The Netflix series is instead an adaptation and retelling of the games.

The teaser and now opening credits give little hints of story specifics or which elements of which game might be adapted. Instead, the focus is on explosive style. Dante killing demons is all Devil May Cry needs.
