Virgin River Renewed for Season 7 Ahead of Season 6 Premiere

It’s a good day to be a Virgin River fan!

The romantic drama series based on Robyn Carr’s books has been renewed for a seventh season ahead of its Season 6 premiere on Netflix. The cast celebrated the news through an Instagram video.

Deadline reports that this renewal makes Virgin River “Netflix’s longest-running current original scripted series as well as the longest-running English-language drama series in the streamer’s history.”

The show’s upcoming season “promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s.” 

Virgin River Season 6 is also set “against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic spring wedding season” after their engagement on the show’s fourth season. The 10-episode season premieres on Thursday, December 19, on Netflix. The streamer released the teaser trailer for Season 6 last week.

But what can executive producer and showrunner Patrick Sean Smith tease about Season 7? “There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” Sean Smith told Netflix’s Tudum.

“I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting,” Sean Smith added. The showrunner teased the recently renewed season will “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”

Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Tim Matheson as Doc, Annette O’Toole as Hope, Colin Lawrence as Preacher, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Brady, and Zibby Allen as Brie.

The show’s ensemble also includes Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Marco Grazzini as Mike, Kai Bradbury as Denny, Kandyse McClure as Kaia, and Mark Ghanime as Cameron.

The romantic drama debuted on Netflix in December 2019. Virgin River Season 5 streamed ten episodes in September 2023 and the final two episodes in November 2023.

Sue Tenney, Amy Palmer Robertson, Roma Roth, Christopher E. Perry, Robyn Carr, Erin Cardillo, and Richard Keith executive produce the series.
