The Beauty from Ryan Murphy Ordered to Series at FX
FX has ordered a new drama series, The Beauty.
The news of an 11-episode first season has been reported by TV Line and corroborated by Variety.
The Beauty is the latest project from prolific TV producer Ryan Murphy. The series’ cast, also included in the pick-up announcement, includes frequent Murphy collaborator Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos, and Jeremy Pope (who appeared in Murphy’s FX series Hollywood).

It is unknown at this time which roles the actors will play — The AV Club reports the show is still searching for a female lead as well.
The Beauty is an adaptation of an Image Comics horror book created by writer/artist Jeremy Haun and writer Jason A. Hurley. It ran as a comic for 30 issues/six collected volumes between 2015 and 2021.
The synopsis of the comics series reads as follows:
“Modern society is obsessed with outward beauty. What if there was a way to guarantee you could become more and more beautiful every day? What if it was a sexually transmitted disease? In the world of The Beauty, physical perfection is attainable. The vast majority of the population has taken advantage of it, but Detectives Foster and Vaughn will soon discover it comes at a terrible price.”

The series was co-created by Murphy and Matt Hodgson, who previously worked with Murphy as a writer on Glee. The Beauty is part of Murphy’s overall production deal with Disney/20th Television.
Murphy, Hodgeson, Peters, Kutcher, Ramos, and Pope are also acting as executive producers on The Beauty, as are Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, and Eric Gitter.
After creating Popular, Nip/Tuck, and Glee through the late 1990s and 2000s, Ryan Murphy’s cache exploded with the FX anthology series American Horror Story. Since then, Murphy has produced many similar anthology series, some of which dramatize true events: American Crime Story, Monster, and more.
The Beauty begins production in Fall 2024. It does not have a release date at this time.
