A First Look at ‘A Very Royal Scandal’ on Prime Video
Prime Video’s A Very… Scandal anthology series is back with A Very Royal Scandal, starring Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson.
The streamer has released first-look photos of the three-episode series, which premieres on Monday, September 19, in the US, UK, Canada, and New Zealand.
A Very Royal Scandal is expected to demonstrate “the power of journalism through a pivotal moment in British history,” per its logline. It is based on BBC journalist Emily Maitlis’s 2019 interview with Prince Andrew.

The miniseries stars Sheen as Prince Andrew, Wilson as Emily Maitlis, Joanna Scanlan as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke as Stewart Maclean, and Claire Rushbrook as Sarah Ferguson.
A Very Royal Scandal was directed by Julian Jarrold and written by Jeremy Brock.
Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Diarmuid McKeown, Jeremy Brock, Jarrold, and Emily Maitlis herself serve as executive producers.
Josh Hyams is a producer on the series. Blueprint Television for Amazon MGM Studios produces the series, and Sony Pictures Television distributes it worldwide.

A Very Royal Scandal comes after 2018’s A Very English Scandal, which starred Hugh Grant as Jeremy Thorpe and Ben Whishaw as Norman Scott. Prime Video’s A Very British Scandal, starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany as the Duchess and Duke of Argyll, followed in 2021.
The Prime Video miniseries also follows Netflix’s retelling, Scoop, which started streaming in April of this year. That version starred Rufus Sewell as Andrew and Gillian Anderson as Emily.
Variety reports that because Maitlis is an executive producer on A Very Royal Scandal, it is “understood to be told more from her perspective.”
Series description: One night. One hour. One interview that sent shockwaves around the globe. Based on the real-life 2019 interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew over the scandalous accusations he faced regarding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre. A Very Royal Scandal follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.
