I saw Space Cadet at an early virtual screening thanks to Amazon Studios. It’s an entertaining film that you could compare to movies of the early 2000s like Legally Blonde and The House Bunny.

Similarly to those fish-out-of-water movies, Space Cadet follows an unconventionally bright young woman.

Emma Roberts plays Rex, a woman who imagined a different life by her late 20s until her ten-year high school reunion inspires her to embrace her ambitions. Rex applies for the NASA space program.

Her best friend Nadine interferes and NASA accepts her into the program.  Now Rex must prove herself and learn important skills.  

Space Cadet thrives on silly comedy fun. It combines silliness with sweet and simple messages. Roberts’s portrayal of this kind character highlights her on-screen charm.  

You’ll want to befriend Rex. 

This Prime Video original has a solid cast that includes scene-stealer Poppy Liu and quirky Tom Hopper. Space Cadet’s strong supporting cast also includes Gabrielle Union, Kuhoo Verma, Desi Lydic, and Andrew Call.

Film description:

Tiffany “Rex” Simpson (Emma Roberts) has always dreamed of going to space, but life isn’t going quite as planned. Determined to turn things around, she aims high and with the embellishing touch of her supportive best friend Nadine (Poppy Liu), her “doctored” application lands her in NASA’s ultra-competitive astronaut training program.

In over her head, Rex relies on her quick wits, moxie and determination to get to the top of her class. NASA program directors Pam (Gabrielle Union) and Logan (Tom Hopper) certainly take notice, but can this Florida girl get through training and into the cosmos before she blows her cover?
