Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 9 Review: Somos Uno
It is great to see that, slowly but surely, Chicago P.D. is closing every episode that the season has opened. The case Torres has been working against drug trafficker Perez finally ends on Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 9, “Somos Uno.”
Given that the case hasn’t been discussed in several episodes, it works perfectly that “Somos Uno” starts with flashbacks of what happened when Torres started working on the case. It also helps us hear his voice as he tells Voight and Burgess what happened in the last 36 days.
We get to put the pieces together of what happened while the season has gone on to focus on different cases. If there was something we had forgotten, the first minutes remind us of every important detail we must know.

Before diving into the fact that this episode once more highlights that Torres is stuck between two worlds, it is important to applaud the work Burgess does on this episode.
Voight clearly trusts her so much that he has put her in charge of the case and keeping an eye on Torres. She is Torres’s point of contact and must check up on him to ensure he is okay.
Sadly, this also means that she is the one who discovers he is having an affair with his CI. As much as Kim could put her cop persona aside and let her emotions handle this situation, she knows that is not for the best.
She must enforce the rules and push Torres to break up with Gloria. Instead of going to her boss about it and ruining Torres’s career, she trusts that he will do what is right.
He does, but at what cost? He is left in the limbo, not knowing exactly where he belongs.

Torres has always stood out from the rest of his team. He wears one outfit (white T-shirt and jeans) every time, no matter the work he is doing. Even when he is undercover, we see him wear the exact same outfit.
When he first started working on this case on Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 4, “Escape,” he connected with Gloria because of his past. He could understand who she was and the life she came from.
That is what pulls him to believe her, even when the evidence points to her involvement in the robbery, stealing money from Perez. All throughout Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 9, “Somos Uno,” Torres chooses to believe her.
He is stuck between two worlds—between the person he grew up being and the person he is supposed to be now that he is a cop—something that Gloria questions when they are in bed.
Is this the life he pictured for himself? Is this the work he imagined doing when he became a cop?

When Burgess confronts him about his relationship with Gloria, Torres explains his dilemma by saying he gets her, and she gets him. They understand each other because they grew up the same way, and it has been so hard for him to stay away from her.
Afterward, Gloria asks him to run away with her. He is stuck between doing the right thing and running away and becoming a fugitive with the woman who truly understands him.
She separates him further from his team and his reality as a cop when she says, “Somos uno.” Gloria, too, believes they are one; they understand each other and should be together.
Even when the evidence points to Gloria betraying him, Torres is willing to let her burn him (literally) in order to keep her safe. He will do whatever it takes to protect her, even lie about the death of Perez.
With that lie, Torres chooses one world over the other. He chooses to save Gloria and risk his career because he understands how desperate she wants to be free.

Gloria clearly sees how much Torres struggles with knowing where he belongs. She doesn’t directly tell him that, but we understand when she tells him not to let his team get in his head.
What they had is real, regardless of what his job tells him about how wrong the relationship was. It is up to Torres to decide the kind of man he will be and whether he will continue living between worlds or choose one (again).
His past helps him be good at his job, allowing him to be the best on the team when going undercover. But his training as a cop helps his instincts.
After being robbed, we see him return to the scene and interview a witness to find out who stole the money. His cop instincts kick in, and he is ready to investigate.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 9, “Somos Uno,” gives closure to a case, but does that mean Torres is ready to move on from it?
Hopefully, we will see him dealing with his feelings instead of shoving them aside and pushing through. Usually, these cops never address their emotions and keep going forward, but it’d be nice to see how he deals with everything.
It would also be nice to see Trudy be more involved in the cases. Her appearance on Chicago Fire Season 9 Episode 9, “Something About Her,” proves she is ready for the action, and it would be nice to see that on Chicago P.D.
