The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 1 Review: Truth for a Truth

Reviews

The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 1, “Truth for a Truth,” marks the return of the show after a long hiatus. Not surprisingly, the show returns with an action-packed episode that has viewers on the edge of their seats.

As usual, Robyn’s personal and professional lives get mixed up in a way that helps us understand why she has become the woman she is today. It also helps understand why Delilah is questioning what to do after high school.

Even though the action puts Robyn in harm’s way, she makes it out safely and once again saves the day with the help of Mel, Harry, and Dante.

Dante on the Team

Even though indirectly Dante has been a part of the team for many seasons now, it is only on The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 1, “Truth for a Truth,” that he officially becomes one of them. I suppose nearly being burnt alive together makes for the perfect team bonding activity.

It is after being rescued that Dante joins Mel, Harry, and Robyn at their bar and is introduced to their secret Batcave. This helps him have a better understanding of what they do, how they do it, and why it really matters.

However, it also pushes him to question his own position as part of the NYPD. Is what he does enough? Does joining their team change the essence of who he is?

These are obviously questions that won’t be answered on one episode, but we can guarantee that Dante fits into the team perfectly. He brings a different attitude and a list of resources that, combined with Harry’s, can lead Mel and Robyn safely.

At the end of the episode, he is reinstated as detective, but he also makes it clear that he won’t stop helping the trio with their cases.

It’ll be interesting to see how he balances everything out.

It Gets Personal

From The Equalizer Season 1, Robyn’s personal life has been strongly intertwined with the work she does. That got more complicated once Delilah and Aunt Vi found out what she does for a living.

It is her background story and the presence of her family that reminds viewers that Robyn is actually human. We see her take on these dangerous cases, fight hundreds of different bad guys, and come out — mostly — unharmed.

That makes her seem superhuman, but the reality is she is not. She is a highly trained ex-CIA agent, a mother, and a niece.

The scenes at home that break the action help us connect Robyn’s career with her personal life, and just like Delilah and Aunt Vi, we’re rooting for her to make it home safely.

However, on The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 1, “Truth for a Truth,” these intermissions in the action help us understand Delilah a bit better. She’s seen her mom in action and in danger, and both her mom and Mel have trained her.

Now, she is wondering if she could become one of them. Aunt Vi’s fear and their conversation about the future are a hint that tells us this topic will come up again during the season. But the question is, can Robyn handle her daughter following in her footsteps?

Robyn has promised Aunt Vi and Delilah that she will always make it back home. Every case is different, but this one involves someone from her past who was like a sister to her, so the stakes are higher.

That is why Delilah tells her mom not to worry about them and just focus on the case. That definitely gives Robyn the go-ahead to do what needs to be done and come back home to them.

However, it’s not as easy as it seems. Michelle is trained the same way she is, and the two women know each other too much. But that is exactly what makes this one an exciting episode.

We know Michelle escapes from the CIA, and her thirst for revenge will push her to keep going until everyone who did her wrong is dead.

Robyn is able to put a stop to her plans this time around, but will she be able to do it again?

The Equalizer Season 4 is off to a great start. We see Robyn doing what she does best and kicking ass to save those she loves.

Hopefully, we will get to see different cases throughout the season to see the collaboration between the trio and Dante.
