The Conners Season 6 Episode 2 Review: Valentine’s Day Treats and Credit Card Cheats
Love is in the air for the Conner family in many different ways on The Conners Season 6 Episode 2, “Valentine’s Day Treats and Credit Card Cheats.” Whether it’s Tyler trying to win over Beverly Rose or the family trying to pull one over on Bev, there is an undercurrent of love that can’t be ignored.
If this family knows anything, it is how to scam their way in or out of anything. Which just might come in handy now that Bev’s condition has her purchasing ridiculous items.
Meanwhile, Tyler’s affections are genuinely there, but is this a cause for deeper concern down the road? It’s something we aren’t used to worrying about with this show, considering no one involved with the family has ever had significant amounts of money before.
Love, Tyler

Sean Astin continues to charm and woo us with his performance as the lovable cargo plane pilot, Tyler. We haven’t seen much of him since he met Becky at the end of last season, but being introduced to Beverly Rose bodes well for his continued presence in Becky’s life.
The character continues to show signs that he doesn’t know how to be atypical when it comes to relationships with others, but boy, does he try. Tyler makes a substantial income from his job, and that is something the family doesn’t know how to reconcile either — which plays well for Tyler’s insecurities.
Naturally, he’s going to want everyone to like him, and he thinks that since he has the money, he can use it to gain that affection. Adults can be more controlled because they’re mature enough to tell him no or look at his contribution for what it really is.

However, Beverly Rose sees the money and runs with it, creating a very serious issue. Thinking he is building a relationship with her, Tyler isn’t aware of the ramifications of spoiling Beverly Rose with his money.
It’s so great to see Becky put aside her affection for this man and tell him why his actions aren’t the best. It’s never done with malicious intent, and never once does Becky try to push him away.
That is growth for her, and seeing her mention marriage in connection with him — even if it is just a joke — shows that this relationship really means something to her.
Bev’s Love Has Been Earned

JOHN GOODMAN, ESTELLE PARSONS
Fans of The Conners and Roseanne intimately know the sordid history of Bev and her family. So, it comes as no surprise that Jackie is willing to encourage and even look the other way when an idea is formulated to use Bev’s credit card for their own gain.
Sure, the situation starts with thinking Bev’s card was stolen and used to purchase frivolous things such as puppies, timeshares, and a donation to “The Pyramid.” However, upon realizing that they won’t be responsible for Bev’s balance upon her death, the family decides it’s best to gain something from it.
Bev’s dementia journey has been a long one, and it’s definitely never been easy on anyone in the family. However, it feels like a whole new low that they’ve decided it’s okay to use her credit to buy things for themselves.

JAY R. FERGUSON, LAURIE METCALF, LECY GORANSON, SARA GILBERT
I’m willing to forgive this family for most of the schemes they come up with because, at the end of the day, they are ingenious ploys to get ahead in life. Unfortunately, this one leaves us feeling kind of icky, no matter how much Bev’s behavior has traumatized her family over the years.
One of the good things to come out of this whole situation, though, is Dan. After years of being told by his mother-in-law that he is worthless and not a good man, he is finally told that she loves and respects him.
Her words may not actually mean anything, but for the moment, it is exactly what Dan needs to hear. He’s sacrificed so much over the years for his family, and Bev finally recognizing that is beautiful.
Stray Thoughts
- So many great quotes from this episode, but the best one has to be, “A damaged man with money? Marriage is definitely on the table.”
- I wish they would bring in Neville and Mark instead of just mentioning them, but it’s understandable that the actors might not have been available.
- Not gonna lie the puppies Bev purchased were cute
