Survival of the Thickest Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

News

Survival of the Thickest is coming back for Season 2 on Netflix.

The comedy series inspired by Michelle Buteau’s essay collection of the same name debuted its eight-episode first season in July 2023. The show, created by Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Wittell, stars Buteau as Mavis Beaumont. Buteau announced the news during an appearance on Today.

“It was just a calm, like, overwhelming feeling of joy, but, you know, I didn’t jump up and down. I was like, “Yes, I did it. This is what I’ve been working towards,” Buteau told Hoda & Jenna.

Mavis wants to “thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.”

The show’s season finale sees Mavis turn down her ex-boyfriend Jaque to fly to Italy and win back Luca.

Survival of the Thickest stars Tone Bell as Khalil, Tasha Smith as Marley, Liza Treyger as Jade, Taylor Selé as Jacque, Anissa Felix as India, Garcelle Beauvais as Natasha, Anthony Michael Lopez as Bruce.

Sanchez-Wittell serves as the showrunner on the series. She, Buteau, Linda Mendoza, A24’s Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich, and Mosaic’s Anne Hong executive produce the scripted comedy series.

Survival of the Thickest‘s writers are Buteau, Sanchez-Witzel, Grace Edwards, Ian Edwards, Solomon Georgio, ER Fightmaster, Hillary Handlesman, and Julia Lindon. Mendoza, Kim Nguyen, Amy Aniobi, and Kimmy Gatewood are the comedy’s directors.
