A period comedy about British highwaymen is perhaps not the most natural next project for comedian Noel Fielding, but The Great British Baking Show fan favorite co-host transitions from the tent to the tavern with ease, fully leaning into The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin‘soffbeat, weirdo charm.
Tangentially based on a real-life historical figure, the story stars Fielding as a kinder, more charming version of the infamous British lawbreaker, who was best known for stealing deer and committing murder.

Here, Turpin becomes the reluctant leader of a gang of outlaws. Only they’re a group that’s more interested in friendship, fun, and showmanship than actual robbery or killing. The charming group finds themselves stuck in a variety of dangerous, ridiculous, and even supernaturally-tinged situations. Even better, the whole vibe is generally much warmer and more light-hearted than anything their real-life counterparts likely got up to.

Series description: InThe Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, Dick Turpin (Noel Fielding) sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville).
In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavors, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying to escape the clutches of the thief-taker.
