Rap Sh!t Canceled by Max After Two Seasons

Rap Sh!t won’t return for a third season on Max.

TV Line reports that the comedy series has been canceled after two seasons. The show debuted with a two-episode premiere in July 2022.

Rap Sh!t follows Shawna and Mia, two estranged high school friends from Miami when they reunite to form a rap group. Aida Osman stars as Shawn, while KaMillion stars as Mia. The comedy also stars Jonica Booth as Chastity, RJ Cyler as Lamont, and Daniel Augustin as Maurice.

“In their rise to fame, Shawna and Mia find themselves at a pivotal moment in their rap career as they are forced to decide if they will stay true to themselves or conform to the demands of the music industry,” per the show’s synopsis. 

Executive produced by Issa Rae and showrunner Syreeta Singleton, Rap Sh!t‘s second and now final eight-episode season also premiered with two episodes in November 2023. The now series finale, Rap Sh!t Season 2 Episode 8, “Under Construction,” streamed on Thursday, December 21, 2023, on Max.

“I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writers, and crew that made this show possible. Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls,” Issa Rae said in a statement to Variety.

“I love this show and I am so proud of the work we’ve done,” Syreeta Singleton added, per Variety.

“We created something fun, raw, and original and we did it our way! I will forever be grateful to Issa, our incredible cast, the amazing writers and crew that made this show possible. And so grateful to Max for giving us the chance to bring Rap Sh!t to the screen,” Singleton continued.

Montrel McKay for HOORAE, Jonathan Berry, and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Jim Kleverweis also executive produce Rap Sh!t.

Hip-hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls are co-executive producers, along with Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas for Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi and Jax Clark for HOORAE. Issa Rae’s audio content company, Raedio, handles music supervision for the series.

Rap Sh!t Seasons 1-2 is streaming on Max.
