Love Is Blind Season 5 Episodes 5-7 Recap: Don’t Give Up on Me / Going Home / First Class Love

Love Is Blind

We’ve reached the end of the ten-day experiment, and Love Is Blind Season 5 has three couples to show for it.

Now, as the time in the pods comes to an end and the engaged couples head off on a couple’s retreat, there are still plenty of roadblocks along the way. (Oh, and some very steamy showers.)

So, let’s break down what happened couple by couple.

Uce and Aaliyah (and Lydia)

Love Is Blind Season 5 Episode 5, “Don’t Give Up on Me,” picks up right where the previous episode left off. Aaliyah’s departure leads to a heated phone conversation with Uce.

Uce’s tone and the way he speaks in this conversation make it sound like it’s all on her. Yes, her leaving may not have been the most mature way of handling that scenario, but the fact is that he has a part in keeping his previous relationship a secret.

Later on, when Uce and Aaliyah meet, he continues to put a lot of their relationship failing on her. While he also gives more context to his previous relationship with Lydia, it does feel like it’s painted to make himself seem like the good guy.

Lydia and Milton

This week also saw Lydia and Milton’s reveal. It’s a very sweet moment watching them talk to each other face-to-face for the first time.

Yet, some little things come into play that start to show how their relationship may be tested.

Lydia’s accent is proving difficult for Milton to understand, and he continues to say that they’ll work on the way she speaks when it comes up.

The two enjoy their time in Mexico, and when they’re home Milton gets to meet Lydia’s mom and brother. It’s a cute moment, and very sweet seeing Milton accepted into the family.

Lydia and Milton also have some disagreements over the treatment of his microscope and Lydia’s dislike of a couple of rugs in Milton’s place, which she immediately tries to hand off.

While all of the scenes give off general warm and fuzzy feelings, it comes to a head during Love Is Blind Season 5 Episode 7, “First Class Love,” when Uce confronts Lydia about why she entered the experiment.

It’s hard to tell what the over-arching story is here since we don’t know Lydia’s motivation for entering the experiment. However, if a part of why they break up is because Uce keeps poking at the issue, this will get old quickly.

Izzy and Stacy

Izzy and Stacy seem to have the most grounded relationship of the season so far. (Yes, I am saying this knowing that this is reality TV and they’re editing out hours of footage down to a few minutes.)

Unlike the other couples, Izzy and Stacy are having hard conversations and they are confronting them head-on.

Stacy is talking about her house and how it will need regular maintenance and wants to know if Izzy is willing to do that with her. She wants to know that he’s willing to work as hard as she is.

Overall, Stacy is putting all her cards on the table and they both understand that while the attraction is there they need to have these conversations in order to have a strong relationship.

It’s hard not to let the drama of the pods come into play in the real world. Johnie’s passing comment about Izzy’s bad credit score echoes in my mind and I wonder if Stacy knows about that.

Either way, they’re relatively fine. They have their drama but it pales in comparison to everything else.

JP and Taylor Call It Quits

These episodes also see one couple end their relationship before the retreat ends. JP and Taylor’s relationship suffers from a lack of communication.

While they try to make it work, it reaches a precipice when he tries to blame it on how she was too made up at the reveal.

Taylor has a point. JP had no idea what she looked like before that moment so there’s no reason for him to be disappointed that she came out wearing makeup and fake eyelashes. While JP’s point is also valid, it could have been handled better if he had taken a step back and talked to her early on.

I don’t blame Taylor for calling it off and going home. She did try to make it work, but in the end, communication has to happen both ways.
