On Cruel Summer Season 1 Episode 7, “It’s the End of the World,” Megan overhears Luke bragging about how he’s been playing both her and Isabella and that he has both girls right where he wants them.

During ATX Television Festival, Griffin Gluck sat down with reporters to discuss the show. Naturally, I had to ask for his opinion on this development and what he believes Luke’s feelings are toward both Isabella and Megan.

“I say this because I have to be Luke’s biggest advocate. I have to be kind of his only advocate… Realistically, the way I approached the character, who I thought Luke was, is I really don’t think he’s a malicious person deep down. He’s not doing any of this to spite someone or to hurt anyone or even to boost himself up,” Gluck stated.

“He is presented with a set a cards. He’s got a not-so-great family that he wants to distance himself from, and every time he fails to do so, it does affect him, and he doesn’t love it. It makes him feel bad. But, he’s also young and stupid. He’s only like 16/17. He doesn’t have all the answers. He doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know how to fix these things.”

Gluck concluded, “I think he loves both of these girls very much. I think he loves Megan. The situation is his friends think he’s cool for it, and he has to keep this secret. He’s stupid, and he’s young, and he’s taking advantage of that. I’m not saying he’s perfect. He makes a lot of mistakes, but I do think he’s just young and naive. I don’t think it’s really malicious.”
